This last week at Newbury Elementary our students had the amazing opportunity of being able to go from auditions on to performances in just five days. It was so special to see some of our more bashful students blossom on the stage. On Friday students put on a matinee show for community members and students from Bradford Elementary School and at the evening show families joined us for the final performance of Beauty Lou & the Country Beast. I'd like to thank Music Helps for helping to make this drama performance possible. Also, to Laurie Williams for the countless hours of organizing that she put in order to make this amazing opportunity happen. We hope to bring Missoula Children's Theater back again next year with help from your generous donations.

On Wednesday March 18th the OUUSD Board will be looking at the most recent draft of the FY 2027 budget. This budget includes cuts to both supplies, services and support & professional positions. Full day PreK for both the Bradford and Newbury campuses remains in the proposed budget. An error in the calculation in the Long Term Weighted Average Daily Membership was found, and the correction is in the district's favor. At Wednesday's meeting we will have more inform about how this change will effect the tax rate in each community. If you would like to stay informed please consider attending the board meeting by zoom or in person at the Oxbow Library. Community listening sessions are planned before the budget vote, please plan on attending one of those so that you have as much information as possible about the upcoming school budget.

Lastly, I invite you to attend our Math & Literacy Night on Thursday March 19th. It will be an opportunity to participate in some fun math and literacy experiences with our students. The staff have a variety of activities planned, including an author visit, book giveaway, measurement games and gift card raffles. Light refreshments will be provided by 302 Cares. We look forward to seeing you at 5pm in the Newbury gym.

Respectfully Submitted,

Loretta R. Cruz

Principal

Positivity Project: Other People Mindset- Positivity Project: Other People Mindset-

Identifying & Appreciating the Good in Others Identifying & Appreciating the Good in Others

Dear Families,

This week, our school community will focus on the Other People Mindset of Identifying and appreciating the good in others. It’s important to deliberately work to identify and appreciate others’ character strengths. It’s not always easy to notice people’s strengths, but it’s something we should all practice.

Often, it’s easier to blame others or focus on their mistakes, which can lead to negative feelings like jealousy or frustration. This negativity can create problems, not just for us but also for our relationships with others.

When we make an effort to see the good in people, we start to see the world in a more positive way. If we always focus on the bad, it feels like we’re surrounded by negativity, which makes us defensive and stressed. This doesn’t mean we should ignore reality or pretend everything is perfect, but we should try to understand others and recognize their good intentions. When we see the good in others, they are more likely to see the good in us.

To practice and encourage the Other People Mindset at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.

Monday Morning Mantra: Assume the Best

From Ms. Hersey From Ms. Hersey

In Health class, students in grades 3 and 4 have been learning about their body systems and how to care for them. We explored the integumentary system, which includes the skin, hair, and nails, and learned how it protects the body, helps control temperature, and allows us to feel different sensations. Students practiced healthy habits such as hand washing, wearing sunscreen, drinking water, and caring for their nails. We also learned about the musculoskeletal system, made up of bones, joints, and muscles that help us move and stay strong. Students discovered that the body has 206 bones and over 600 muscles. They learned that eating calcium-rich foods, staying active, practicing good posture, and getting enough sleep are important for keeping this system healthy.
