Hauser Happenings - 9/25/26

Enjoy this first fall weekend!

Chris Harvalis - Principal

Katie Kayastha - Assistant Principal

As the school year ramps up, many young people and families are navigating a spike in stress, anxiety, screen use, and mood challenges that come with the return to routine, academic pressure, and social demands.

Screens, in particular, are a fact of life for our children now--at home, at school, with their friends. The real question is how we help kids build a healthier relationship with technology, one that lasts beyond the argument over bedtime phone rules.

Linked here is an invitation for our parent/caregiver community to join Compass Health Center for an approachable conversation and Q&A on fostering healthy screen habits on October 13th from 6:30-7:30pm. No alarmism, no rigid rulebooks; just practical strategies families can actually use at home. Registration is linked here!

The Hauser PTO does so much for our Hauser community! If you're not already receiving their communications, please visit their website to make sure you're signed up to receive all the important PTO news! Keep reading for information on a great event for our 7th graders!

Jeffrey Brown Author Visit

Hauser PTO is excited to host Jeffrey Brown on Thursday, October 1st! Jeffrey will give a presentation to the 7th grade class.

Jeffrey is an Eisner Award winner and New York Times bestselling author-illustrator. He has created dozens of graphic memoirs, humorous parodies, and cat books. He lives in Chicago with his wife, Jennifer, and his two sons.

All grades are welcome to order copies of Hulk Teach and Hulk Teach #2. All copies will be personalized for your student. Books will be distributed to students during their Cougar Connections class within a few days of the presentation. Orders must be placed by Tuesday, September 29th.

To recognize the EXTREMELY RARE feat of both Chicago baseball teams making the playoffs this season (it has only happened THREE times in history!), Hauser is hosting a CUBS v SOX Day on Tuesday, September 29th, the same day that the playoffs start.

Wear blue and red to support the North Side Cubbies or black and white to support the South Side Sox.

While the school year is just getting started, there are many events throughout the year for our 8th grade students. To make sure families are in the know, we have a separate newsletter for the Class of 2027. This newsletter will be updated throughout the school year with all the information families needs to know!

District 96 is excited to introduce our new parent page; a resource designed to keep families informed about their student's technology. Visit the site to access helpful links, device information, web filtering, and more.

The district calendar for the 2026-2027 school year can be found here.
