McClelland's Message McClelland's Message

Dear Rock Springs Families,

I hope this letter finds you well! I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what a fantastic short week it has been here at Rock Springs Elementary. Despite the short week, our students, teachers, and staff have made the most of every moment, continuing to embrace our mission of creating a positive and impactful learning environment.

I am also thrilled to share some exciting news! We are proud to announce that Scottie Hendrix has been selected as our Rock Springs Elementary Teacher of the Year. This well-deserved recognition reflects her dedication, passion, and the outstanding contributions she makes to our school community every day. Scottie Hendrix has consistently gone above and beyond to inspire our students and create a classroom environment where every child feels valued and supported.

Please join me in congratulating Scottie Hendrix on this wonderful achievement. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a talented and caring educator as part of our Rock Springs family.

As we look ahead to the rest of the school year, I am excited about all the opportunities for growth, learning, and community building that lie ahead. Thank you for your continued support, and let’s make the most of the upcoming weeks together.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend!

Your proud principal,

Melissa M. McClelland

Encourage Civic Responsibility

In a democratic society, people have many rights ... but they also have responsibilities. Encourage your child to take these responsibilities seriously, at home, in school and in the community.

To encourage civic responsibility:

  • Set a good example. Take an active role in your community. Attend a meeting of the parent-teacher organization at school, the city council or school board. Take your child with you.
  • Expect your child to do age-appropriate chores for the good of the family. Help your elementary schooler see that when everyone contributes, everyone benefits.
  • Take part in community service projects as a family. Clean up a nearby park. Help children with disabilities enjoy a sport. Or, choose another activity your family can do together to make your community a better place.

At Rock Springs Elementary, we cherish the sense of community that surrounds us. We believe that a strong community contributes to a positive and nurturing learning environment for our students. Your involvement and cooperation in following our car rider procedures play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and flow of traffic in and around our school.

The car rider lane will close promptly at 8:10 AM.

Left turns out of the car rider lane are not permitted between 7:40 AM-8:25 AM.

Please wait in the car rider lane to drop off your child.

For the safety of everyone, avoid making left turns out of the car rider lane until after 8:25 AM.

By following these guidelines, you contribute to the efficient operation of our car rider procedures and help ensure the safety of all students during morning drop-off.

We greatly appreciate your cooperation in making Rock Springs Elementary a safe and welcoming place for our students. If you have any questions or require further clarification regarding our car rider procedures, please feel free to contact us.

Birthday Celebrations Birthday Celebrations

Helium balloons are not allowed inside the building.

Check with your child’s teacher regarding his/her birthday procedures and preferences. Personal party invitations should not be given out at school.

The celebration of student birthdays is optional and may be observed using the following options:

Option 1: Parents may purchase an “Ice Cream Party” for their child’s class on the Friday of your child’s birthday week. Parents need to send cash or a check made payable to “Rock Springs Elementary” for the total amount of the ice cream cost ($1.00 per child). For example, if there are 20 students in a class, the parent will send in cash or check in the amount of $20.00. Each child in the class will get to pick their ice cream of choice for the birthday celebration. The ice cream will be served to the students at the end of the class lunch time.

Option 2: Parents may provide only store-bought snacks for the class to eat during regular snack time or during their regular lunch time. The snack should not include drinks. No birthday favors, gifts, balloons, or prizes will be allowed. Parents are asked to bring the snack to the office in the morning so that the classroom teacher can adjust his/her schedule accordingly.

Option 3: Parents may choose a healthier option such as sending in a special Birthday pencil or eraser that the teacher will pass out to each student during the time that they celebrate your child’s birthday.

Option 4: Parents may choose a Birthday Book Dedication to recognize your child’s birthday while helping our media center continue to build its collection. You may contact Tracy Randolph (Media Specialist), for more information at 770-932-7474, Tracy.Randolph@gcpsk12.org.
