Sundays From The Mesa #5
September 8th - 12th

Principal's Message
Dear Alta Mesa Families,
We’re ready for another great week at Alta Mesa! I have just a few updates for you this week. The City of Redding will be working on the cross street of Hartnell and Alta Mesa, so please note that the three-way intersection will be closed from September 7–10; see below for the press release, detour map, and more details. Our Booster Club will be meeting on Wednesday, September 10, from 6:00–7:00 p.m. in the library, and we’d love to see you there. The first week of the Riffle Raffle was a huge success—thank you for your support, and let’s keep the momentum going! We have been noticing students being dropped off before 7:40am every day. Parents, please be aware that students are not to be dropped off before 7:40am due to there not being any supervision. Also, Students who ride their bikes or scooters to school need to wear their helmets. If a student is not wearing their helmet, they will not be allowed to ride to and from school. A quick reminder that payments for Alta Mesa shirt and sweatshirt orders are now due, so please stop by the office with cash or a check made payable to Alta Mesa School. Finally, permission slips for the Student Lighthouse Little Leaders Club will be available in the office starting Monday, and we’re excited to now offer this opportunity to our 2nd and 3rd grade students. This club is a wonderful way for our young leaders to use their voices, share ideas, and make a difference at Alta Mesa!
Thank You,
Kristen Crites

Please be aware there will be significant delays during this time—plan accordingly for drop-off, pick-up, and general travel.
🚧 Full Closure Notice
The Alta Mesa Drive and Hartnell Avenue intersection will be fully closed from Sunday, September 7th through Wednesday, September 10th, with no access in or out.

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work with the City of Redding during these closures.
Parking Lot Safety Reminders
Please help us keep our students safe by driving slowly and carefully in the school parking lot. Children can be unpredictable and may cross between cars, so we ask all drivers to stay alert, avoid distractions, and always yield to pedestrians.
Also, please remember that students should not be dropped off before 7:40am, as there is no supervision on campus prior to that time. Thank you for helping us create a safe and smooth drop-off and pick-up for everyone!
Helmets Are A Must!
For the safety of all students, helmets are required when riding bikes or scooters to and from school. A properly fitted helmet helps protect against serious injuries and ensures a safer ride.
Please note: if a student arrives without a helmet, they will not be allowed to ride their bike or scooter home. Parents will be contacted to make other arrangements. Thank you for supporting our efforts to keep all students safe!
Student Lighthouse Little Leaders!
Are you in 2nd or 3rd grade? Are you interested in being more involved in school? Does the idea of helping out at assemblies and rallies sound fun? What about helping to create our weekly Monday Message? If so, SLT Little Leaders might be for you!
This club is year long, and takes place every Wednesday from 2:30-3:30. The Little Leaders will be working alongside our 4th and 5th grade SLT students and Mrs. Huelman.
SLT Little Leaders is an opportunity for 2nd and 3rd graders to experience what it is like to work in the Student Lighthouse Team (SLT). It is located in room 16 (Mrs. Huelman’s classroom).
SLT Little Leaders gives students the opportunity to learn leadership skills, and then implement those skills on campus, through events such as the school assemblies, spirit days, 7 Habits lessons, and more. The Wednesday after school sessions focus on brainstorming, planning, creating and our weekly Monday Message.
Permission Slips will be available in the office starting Monday, September 8th. All permission slips are due Friday, September 19th.
Riffle Raffle
The Sundial Riffle Raffle is a unique event designed as a fundraising opportunity for the Rotary Clubs of Northern California Foundation Against Substance Abuse and local schools and youth groups. Originally presented as the Ducky Derby, it has returned over $5 million to local schools and youth groups.
Funds from the Sundial Riffle Raffle are to be used for Substance Abuse Prevention Programs and Youth Development. This is a unique partnership, where Redding East Rotary provides the infrastructure for students to sell tickets. If the Rotary Club is able to raise adequate funds to cover the cost of the race, 100% of ticket sales are returned to the youth groups.
The Riffle Raffle is our classroom teachers main fundraiser for the year. The ticket sales are facilitated by our Alta Mesa Booster Club. If you are interested in selling tickets, please sign the ticket request form that will go home with your student.
All proceeds go to the classroom teachers Booster Club account to be used for many things including field trips and the purchase of classroom materials.
Alta Mesa Prizes:
- Top selling class will earn a pizza party
- The second place class will earn a popsicle party!
- Every student who sells at least 10 tickets will get to throw a pie in Ms. Crites face!
