Branagan's Bulletin Week of January 30 - February 3, 2023

Welcome Back!

Hello MHS,

I hope you had a great weekend.

As we begin the new semester, I hope you ended your day on Thursday, January 26th with a sense of confidence and celebration for what you accomplished in each of your classes that you were enrolled for Semester I. I hope that you were able to see the potential you have to take academic risks to help you become stronger and stronger as a learner. I am proud of each of you for being the very best version of yourself and doing your very best at this time. However, it is now time to celebrate a fresh start and to set your sight on your personal excellence.

A new semester is here and it is time to dig deep and ensure that you will try your very best each day. We are officially hit the mid-point of the school year and now is your chance to shine even more. Create habits that will help you both inside and outside of the classroom. Create a schedule that will help you with studies and to ensure that you are completing your work each and every day. I believe in you!

Winter Ball is this week....so excited to have this special event happening again!

Can't wait to see you!

Have a great week!

Bran

Program of Studies & Course Selection - 2023 - 2024

MHS will launch the 2023 - 2024 Program of Studies for all students in Grades 8 - 11 from February 6 - 10, 2023. With the preparation for the new schedule for the high school, it was imperative that we rethink how we engage this important process for our students and their families. Here are some highlights:

1. Advisory Week - February 6 - 9, 2023

  • MHS will host an Advisory each day from Monday, February 6 - Thursday, February 9, 2023. This will allow us to engage our students with various aspects of the new schedule and the exciting courses that are launching next year.

2. Program of Studies Nights

  • MHS will host a Program of Studies Night each evening beginning Monday, February 6 - Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 6:30pm each evening. The rationale for this nightly event is to allow families to come to MHS and learn more about courses and the new schedule on an evening that fits their schedule. The program will be same each evening.

3. Aspen Portal Opens - February 10, 2023

  • Students will begin choosing courses in Aspen beginning on Friday, February 10 through Friday, February 17, 2023

Be on the lookout for more information regarding course selection for next year!

Quarter II Report Cards - Released - Friday, February 3, 2023

Quarter II Report Cards will be released on Friday, February 3, 2023 at 2:00pm through Aspen. I am excited to celebrate a great quarter for our students!

Please Drive Safely!

It has been brought to my attention that daily dismissal is becoming a problem with unsafe driving from students who are leaving campus after the school day ends. It is imperative that all drivers are driving slowly as they depart campus and many students are making their way through the parking lot and their safety is paramount. Also, it is important to realize the cars are coming from the pick-up line and have the right of way. Please be mindful of all traffic patterns within the front parking lot.

Thank you for your cooperation with this issue.

Get Those School Laptops Charged!

Just a friendly reminder to all students....PLEASE be sure that you are charging your laptops each night to ensure that you have a fully charged laptop for your classes. Charing your laptop each night is part of taking personal responsibility for being ready for school each day.

Thank you for your commitment to ensuring you are ready for school each day!

Biology MCAS Testing - February 1 & 2, 2023

The Biology MCAS will be held for all Grade 9 students who were enrolled in Biology during the FALL SEMESTER on Wednesday, February 1 and Thursday, February 2, 2023.

Students who are enrolled in Biology for the Spring Semester will take the Biology MCAS in June.

All the best to our freshmen who will take the MCAS Exam this week. We believe in you!

Community Service Requirement Reminders!

Attention all students!

As you know, MHS has a graduation requirement that involves the participation and completion on community service. All students must meet the 24-hour minimum requirement before the completion of senior year.

Mrs. McGurk coordinates all community service programming at MHS and provides some great options to help our students with finding meaningful ways to pay it forward and to help our community. Please visit the Community Service Page

https://www.middleboro.k12.ma.us/domain/1022 to learn more.

Please reach out to Mrs. McGurk with any questions. Her email is smcgurk@middleboro.k12.ma.us

LEARNING COMMONS (LIBRARY) EXPECTATIONS AND PROTOCOLS!

Attention all Students!

The Learning Commons (Library) is a great place to gather, collaborate, read and study. It is important the the Learning Commons is always an area that is conducive to learning. With this in mind, please make note of the important protocols for the use of the Learning Commons:

LEARNING COMMONS/LIBRARY PROTOCOLS

FROM A CLASS:

All students must have an E-hall Pass from their teacher, check in with Mrs. Phillips, and sign in on the clipboard. Students must sign out when they leave. (Teacher will call x3131 first.)

FROM LUNCH:

Students who want to come to the Learning Commons during lunch must get a paper pass from Mrs. Phillips in the morning before 7:20. Students will show their pass to a teacher or administrator in the cafeteria, turn in their pass to Mrs. Phillips, and sign in at the library on the green clipboard.

No food or drink is allowed at any time, except water.

Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

Clean up after yourself and push in your chair before you leave.

Please see Mrs. Phillips in the Learning Commons with any questions.

Math MCAS Prep Course - Begins February 1, 2023

Mrs. Salamone and Mr. Darling will host an afternoon MCAS Prep class for all Sophomores. The MCAS Review Course will be held every Wednesday from 2:00 - 3:00pm in Room C267. The Review Course will begin February 1, 2023.

As we approach the MCAS test date, or if demand dictates, more afternoon sessions will be scheduled.

The primary goal will be to refresh the student’s Algebra skills and to practice using the Geometry Formula Sheet to solve problems. We will use previous MCAS test questions to ensure the students are aware of the language used. We will also offer different test taking strategies that will be helpful during the test.

Mrs. Salamone and Mr. Darlin have created a Google Classroom to allow all students to take advantage of practice tests, videos or other materials if they can not attend during live sessions. The code to join is th4ymoc. Join Today!!!

The weekly Review Course will be held through the Math MCAS Exam in May.
