Next Steps in Literacy Learning - 2nd - 5th grade: Based on our work with Kate Bishop last week, we would like to begin taking steps to solidify our learning. At the beginning of December, you will:
1) Meet with your team to identify one goal from the hierarchy for your team's focus. (Print work might be a good place to start, but feel free to choose any goal.)
2) Each team member will choose at least one student who is matched to that goal or text level. 3) You will work with this student in the Assessment/Goal Setting/Instruction Cycle.
4) Teams will meet regularly to support one another in their work with the chosen students.
STAR 360 Winter Benchmark - Please devise a grade level schedule for winter benchmark testing. Pool your grade level devises and test students in ELA and math between Dec.1 - 20. We would like whole group administration of the test to be given. Please let us know if you need help administering the assessment to your class. The earlier in the month is preferable. Please send your schedule to admin when it is finalized.
Holiday Gathering - We are in the beginning stages of planning a holiday gathering for our work family. Please give your input in the survey below.

Classroom Holiday Parties - As you are looking ahead to plan Holiday Classroom Celebrations, please plan to have them on or before December 18th. We need to give housekeepers a day to throughly clean, so we can all be prepared to leave early if Dr. Little gives us the okay to do so on the 1/2 day Friday.
Google Training: GRADES 3,4 & 5 - We have confirmed the dates for our initial Google training: Tuesday, December 10th and Thursday, January 16th during your planning period with follow-up discussions after school. This was the only time that could be worked out. Our focus will be Google Docs for Collaboration and Google Classroom for Workflow. Please save those dates on your calendar. All teachers in the above grades are expected to attend the training.
Classroom Mosaic- Template 2 Instructional Practices - We will be transitioning to using Template 2 from the 4.0 Rubric for our observation. Template 2 focuses on the Instructional Practices. Please click on the link below to review. We will begin when we return in January. If you have any questions, please let us know.

The Scholastic Book Fair is over! Thank you for being so supportive of our book fair. Not only did we meet our goal but we exceeded it!! There are now 1,347 new books in student’s hands, in classrooms, and in our school library and classroom libraries. There were 20 books bought for classrooms from teacher’s wish lists. There were $240 in gift certificates redeemed. We had 4 parent volunteers and 4 USC Teaching Fellow volunteers. This was the best book fair ever! WKE does Lead, Learn, and Love!
BFF(Book Friend Fridays) Club-1st, 4th, and 5th grade teachers please remind and encourage your students to be part of the BFF Club on Friday mornings in the LLC. 1st graders are paired with the older students to read to become 100 Book Club Members. All of these students will benefit from this opportunity.
WKE News Show- Please sign up for a “Teacher and Staff Tuesdays” time to be on our news show. This is the perfect opportunity for students to get to know you better. We will give you the questions ahead of time and they aren’t difficult. Here is the sign up.

Counselors' Corner
Dear WKE Family,
We hope you are all enjoying your calm down kits and that have been beneficial for your classroom. We would love for you to send us some pictures of students or stories of when the kits have been useful. Also, while the counseling department does not discipline it can sometimes be useful to talk through strategies and skills to prevent discipline referrals in the future. Please let us know if we need to see a student after disciplinary action has been taken by administration.

We will meet for math PD on December 4, during your planning in Room 506. For this meeting, please bring your MacBooks.
