Cub Connections
Blended Learning Week 3- April 27-May 1, 2020
Welcome to Week 3 of our Blended Learning Plan
I am loving all the learning that I'm seeing going on and the way teachers and students are connecting through phone calls and technology. Parents, students, and teachers are working hard and this hard work will pay off!
Monday morning begins Week 3 of our Blended Learning Plan. Remember, we are here to support you! If you still do not have something that you need, please let us know and we will get it to you ASAP.
Lessons for PE and all "specials" will be HERE each week
On the top of each weekly Cub Connection between now and May 22nd, we will list the lesson plans for our PE and "Specials." Specials include art, computer, guidance, and library. Your student attends PE daily but we will only post lessons for 2-3 days. They also attend each of these specials once a week so there is only one lesson for the week for these classes.
New plans will be posted each week but the plans will remain from past weeks as well. This way, they can be done at any time between now and May 22nd.
If you have questions about these lessons, please email the teacher:

Some Special Notes for our 5th Grade Students and Parents
We are still hoping to have some type of "Good-bye" for our 5th grade. Once we get into May, I hope to know more and be able to begin planning something.
D.C. Trip- Those of you waiting on refunds for the D.C. Trip, we believe this will be coming soon. I should hear something this week about how we need to proceed and I will pass this information along to you. Our parents that bought the trip insurance will get a full refund as was stated from the beginning. However, those who did not were not going to be refunded. Our superintendent, Mrs. Bradford, and myself have been working to ensure that all monies will be refunded since the trip could not be held. I will have more information next week I hope!
Middle School- Mr. Dowdey, the Band Director, has asked us to pass along this information.
Hello Fifth Grade students/parents!
Wow! What a different way to spend the last month or so!
I simply want to assure you all that, once we are able to get back together, we will begin to connect with you about your possible interest in Band at Monrovia Middle School for next year.
To start off with, let me encourage you to visit:

Daily Schedule for K-5
A daily checklist that can be adapted for any grade level.
Creator: Allison Griffin, Kindergarten Teacher and Mom to a 2nd grader.
Walt's Checklist (PDF)
Simple Solution
If your students are working online or using the packet and need a place to keep all the assignments they are writing out, use a spiral notebook. You can even use the type with different sections to keep the subjects straight.
Spreadsheet to Keep it all Straight
Spreadsheet for Grades 1, 3, and 5 with a daily schedule as well. In this workbook, there are different tabs at the bottom for the different grade levels. It can be used as a checklist. Erin says she simply printed it off for them to check off as they complete their online/paper work.
From Erin:
"I made a schedule for the day and then mapped out what each child is to accomplish each day of the week. Local friends in Madison County...I will be glad to share any of this for 1st, 3rd, or 5th graders if you think it will help your family."
You can find Erin's full post on the Endeavor PTA Facebook Page: https://sites.google.com/view/endeavor-elementary-school-pta/home
Sticky Notes to Motivate
Creator Kelly Spencer, Mother of a 5th grader.
The picture above is of Kelly's board.
"I created a weekly calendar then I use mini sticky notes for each lesson. We divided up the lessons throughout the week but can move them around easily with the sticky notes if we need more time or if one lesson takes longer than expected. He also feels a sense of accomplishment when he gets to toss the completed lesson sticky note in the trash. Also having a board to write the goals for today has been helpful to focus."
Your Phone Has a SCANNER!
Nickole Messervy shared a post.
I tested this out and it worked so I hope this helps some people.
DID YOU KNOW?...
If you have an iPhone or iPad you actually have a scanner!
Parents, if you are planning to scan any work to your teachers or teachers if you are scanning work to your students you can use the ‘Notes App’.
Open a new note, press the camera button, the option to scan document will pop up. Once the document is scanned you can email it with less band with then a photo.
2nd Grade Spreadsheet
Creator: Jana Grady, PTA Officer and mother of a 2nd grader.
Link to her Spreadsheet.
"I wanted to combine the meat of the information with a checklist to keep track of the tasks we do. I made a chart in Google Sheets so I'll be able to open it from my computer or phone. I plan to get my son a spiral notebook to keep all of his written answers in and I will print the math worksheets.
My chart has the activity lists + quick links to material or links to documents I created to make it easier (typed up sight words to read, for example)."
