Attendance

Dear Families,
As we partner with you to give your child the best possible learning experience this year, we want to highlight one of the single most important factors in student success: consistent, on-time attendance.
This year, we are placing a strong focus on tracking attendance period-by-period, every single day.
Here is what you need to know about how this works and why every minute counts:
2026 - 2027 Attendance Policy Changes
School Attendance Update: Starting this school year, attendance is taken EVERY period, not just at 10 AM.
School starts at 7:25 AM. Arriving after 7:54 AM = Marked Absent.
Arriving 30+ minutes late to any class = Marked Absent for that period.
IF you have a doctor's appointment, please bring that excuse note for same day appointments and you will be marked present.
Please help your student arrive on time so they don't miss out! Questions? Call the main office.
Arriving Late/ Leaving Early?
It is easy to view a 15-minute delay in the morning or an early pickup at the end of the day as minor. However, these small gaps quickly add up:
15 minutes late every day = 1.25 hours of lost instruction per week.
Over a full school year, that adds up to more than a full week of missed learning!
Missing the start of class means missing key directions and foundational lessons; leaving early means missing wrap-up discussions and assignment details.
Arriving late or leaving early impacts your child’s academic progress just as much as staying home all day.
Period-by-Period Tracking: Applies to ALL Days
Attendance is taken at the start of every class period, every day without exception. This includes special school days:
Field Trips & Outings: Attendance is officially tracked period-by-period on event rosters.
Field Days, Assemblies, & Special Events: These are official school days. Missing class during special events is recorded as a class absence.
Fridays & Days Before Breaks: Core instruction happens every day up until the final bell.
🤝 How You Can Help
Schedule Around Class: Whenever possible, please schedule appointments outside of school hours or vary the times so your student doesn't miss the same period repeatedly.
Check the Portal: Log in to the Parent Portal regularly to monitor your student’s attendance period-by-period.
Reach Out Early: If your family is facing transportation or personal hurdles that make arriving on time difficult, please let us know so we can support you.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students present, engaged, and ready to learn every single period!
Chronic Absenteeism? What is that?
Chronic Absenteeism
Did you know that missing just 2 days a month adds up to 20 days missed in a school year? That’s roughly 8,400 minutes of lost instruction!
Because attendance is taken every single period, every day, those lost minutes quickly turn into gaps in learning.
🚦 Check Your Color: The Attendance Dashboard
Where does your student stand right now? We track attendance using these color-coded tiers:
💙 BLUE (0% – 1% Missed): Superior Attendance! On track for maximum academic growth.
💚 GREEN (2% – 5% Missed): Good Attendance. On target for success.
💛 YELLOW (5% – 10% Missed): Cautionary Zone. Missing this much class starts to impact learning.
🧡 ORANGE (10% – 15% Missed): Chronic Absenteeism. High risk of falling behind academically.
🔴 RED (15%+ Missed): Severe Warning Zone. Urgent support and intervention needed.
⚠️ What is TEA's 90/10 Rule?
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) strictly enforces the 90/10 Rule for student grade promotion:
To be eligible for promotion to the next grade level, students MUST attend at least 90% of the days class is offered.
If a student drops into the Orange or Red zones (missing more than 10% of class time), they are at risk of being held back—regardless of how good their grades are.
🤝 How Can We Help?
Life happens, but we want to partner with you to keep your student in the Blue and Green zones!
Check the DeansList/ Skyward: Monitor your child's period-by-period attendance regularly.
Reach Out: If your family is facing transportation issues, health challenges, or personal hurdles, please contact us immediately so we can work on a solution together.
Calendar of off days
Keep this handy! Please use these student days off to schedule non-urgent doctor visits, dentist appointments, and family travel so your child doesn't miss valuable class time..
