Love at Ruby Bridges

One of the things I truly treasure about Ruby Bridges is our diversity. Our array of ethnicities and shades of the rainbow, the many languages, variety of foods, colorful clothing, our beautiful cultures are what make us a UNIQUE community. A community that cares, shares, and stands in solidarity with one another. Despite the hate you see in the world, here at Ruby Bridges, we are about peace and love. To our community- black, brown, or the many shades that we are, we see you, and we value you! We are one!

Please check out these readings below (from National Equity Project):

  • Our Asian Spring
  • We must lift the veil on anti-Asian racism in America
  • Ignoring The History Of Anti-Asian Racism Is Another Form Of Violence
  • Asians must be a part of our story, too

Our First Two Weeks

Hello Ruby Families,

Cheers to an exciting and memorable first two weeks of school. From the smiling eyes, I'm sure our Stars are glad to be back on campus. High fives to the RB community for a smooth reopening. Moving into Week 3, we will continue to review and refine our arrival/dismissal and movement around campus procedures.

Here's how you can support :

  • Complete the Covid daily screener ( 5 questions) prior to entering campus. PLEASE complete at home prior to arrival. It is sent to your email each morning.
  • Students will be screened as they arrive (for drive ups and walk ins). Please do NOT leave your child without ensuring daily screener has been completed.
  • All students must arrive with a mask or approved nose/mouth covering and wear the duration of the time on campus.
  • NO parking along the drop off zone/curb. Make sure to park at the very end of our parking lot or in the neighborhood for a smooth arrival.
  • We are asking families to feed students prior to arrival at school. Lunch will be handed out at dismissal for students included in the lunch count.
  • If your child is symptomatic, you will be called to immediately pick up student and directed with next steps. Students will wait in the isolation room.
  • Remember social distancing at all times. All of those on campus MUST be masked.
  • Practice handwashing with your Star.

Return to School Survey for In- Person ( for families in Distance Learning)

Hello Families in Distance Learning,

Last week, we asked you to fill out a general survey asking if you'd be interested in returning in an expanded schedule and why or why not. Thank you for responding to that one!

This week, we need to ask you to commit to whether or not your student will join our current Hybrid Program starting after Spring Break on April 19. That program combines part-time in-person instruction with part-time distance learning based on the current Hybrid schedule.

Please look for this survey on Tuesday, March 30, 2021. Deadline for submission will be 11:59 pm on April 5th. Please plan to submit one survey below FOR EACH elementary student you have in your family to help us with this next step in planning.

We realize there are a lot of surveys and a lot of information to process. We thank you for your patience and flexibility.

Covid 19 Symptoms and Allergies

If your student is showing symptoms related to Covid 19, an adult will be contacted to pick up the student. If your student has seasonal allergies, please get a doctor’s note indicating this diagnosis. Any reoccurring symptom your child may encounter regularly should be documented by your medical provider. Having a diagnosis in your student’s medical records will help as we monitor students on campus for COVID symptoms.

Here is the AUSD form: Certification of Chronic Conditions.

Women's History Month

"March is National Women’s History Month. Schools and communities all over the country celebrate and commemorate the amazing things that women have accomplished in our country.

Some activities:

  • Are your Stars aware of how women in the U.S. lived just 50-60 years ago when their grandparents were growing up?
  • Thinking about the women in your family, have our Stars interview an adult woman in their family or friend circle.
  • Let older Stars ponder what’s it like to make a mark on the world. Here is a huge list: http://myhero.com/women_heroes
  • Younger Stars can read picture books and early readers with strong female characters and talk about them.

March is also National Reading Month! So, the month of March has two great reasons to read about and recognize the accomplishments of women."

Irish American Heritage Month

"Irish-American Heritage Month was first celebrated by proclamation of the President in 1991. It seemed natural to choose March (Saint Patrick’s Day falls on March 17) for the month-long recognition of the contributions that Irish immigrants and their descendants have made to U.S. society. Virtually every realm of American endeavor, from steelworking to biotechnology to literature, has seen improvement through Irish-descended hands and minds."

March Life Skill- Self Reflection

"Self-reflection is defined as a mental process you can use to grow your understanding of who you are, what your values are, and why you think, feel, and act the way you do. When you self-reflect and become more conscious of what drives you, you can more easily make changes that help you more easily develop and/or improve your life."

This month we are learning about Self-reflection.

Toolbox for March

Throughout February we will focus on the following Toolbox Tools. Our tools help us deal with our feelings and emotions in manageable ways. Ask our stars about the tools.

Apology and Forgiveness Tool- I admit my mistakes and forgive yours.

Patience Tool- I am strong enough to wait.

4 Be's

Ruby Bridges students, faculty, and families believe all students can be STARS by following the 4Bs ! Following the AUSD Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) system, we strive to: Be Safe, Responsible, Respectful, and a Friend. These expectations are taught, modeled, learned, and practiced at Ruby Bridges.

Zoom Safety

  • Please don’t interrupt your child unless s/he needs some help during class.
  • Please be aware that loud background noise - such as music, appliances, conversations or arguments - can be distracting not only to your own child but to the teacher and other students in the class.
  • Please watch your language! Please remember that the camera picks up what’s happening in the room where your child is working. As such, we ask that:
  • You be fully clothed while your child is online.
  • You avoid distracting behavior, such as dancing, cleaning, exercising, or eating.
  • Please do not try to lead or teach in breakout rooms unless you have gone through our volunteer vetting process and are working directly with the teacher to support the class.
  • If possible, please try to find a space where your child can work away from distractions and interruptions and possibly where the camera faces a wall.
