The Weekly Highlander
Volume #38
A Message from the Principal
We made it to summer vacation. We have had an amazing year on our campus and I hope each of you can rest, relax, and enjoy your summer break. We want to wish our 8th graders farewell, we know they will do amazing things next year in High School. We also want to welcome our incoming 6th-grade families and look forward to getting to know you and your students in the fall.
This newsletter includes information about the Summer Challenge to keep your student's mind sharp when away from school. We have also included the final edition of the Mental Health Resources newsletter, providing information on how to support your student's social and emotional growth. Finally, if your child will be riding an E-bike or E-scooter next year to school, they will be required to take a safety course to park on campus.
Look for an email in July from Hewes with a request to confirm your Aeries data to prepare for the start of school. In-person registration begins on August 5th with our 6th-grade WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) orientation for 6th grade on August 7th. You will be getting emails this summer with additional information but the dates are at the bottom of the newsletter and are also on our website.
Have a Happy and Safe Summer. Please stay connected to Hewes by checking our website and following us on Instagram @heweshighlanders for the latest information and news.

Summer Challenges - Reading and Math
This summer the Hewes Staff is challenging all students to do 400 minutes of reading, grammar, and math to keep their minds sharp while not in school. Students in 6th and 7th grade received a hard copy of the flyer with a log to keep track of their minutes in their Core class this week. The flyer is attached for you to review, access the hyperlinks, and print the log in case you need additional copies. If your student is an incoming 6th grader in the fall, we encourage them to participate in this challenge. Students who complete the required minutes should turn in their logs at the start of the school year to Mrs.Wagstaff in B7. There will be a raffle and prizes for Hewes gear for the winners! Happy Summer!

NEW E-Vehicle Rules for fall of 2024
Parking Permit Requirements for the 2024-2025 School Year
On the school campus, the use of electric vehicles (E-vehicles) is subject to specific guidelines aimed at ensuring safety and accountability. To ride an E-vehicle to school and park on campus, students and their parents or guardians are required to attend an E-Vehicle Safety Presentation facilitated by the Tustin Unified School District and local law enforcement agencies. The purpose is to educate students and families about the laws that pertain to E-Vehicles. Once a student attends the presentation they are able to purchase a permit for $5, in order to park their E-vehicle on campus. The permit must be displayed on the E-Vehicle in a visible location. Permits can be purchased on campus.
The campus parking lot adheres to a speed limit of 5 MPH. Engaging in reckless driving or exceeding the speed limit may result in the revocation of parking privileges. Activities such as riding inside the gates, on blacktops, fields, or tracks, riding doubles, and performing wheelies are strictly prohibited. The school assumes no responsibility for the security of E-vehicles, and there are no provisions for charging E-vehicles on campus. In cases of theft or collision, students are advised to promptly contact their local law enforcement agency.
Unauthorized activities, including the transfer or exchange of permits without proper authorization, as well as providing transportation without permission, will lead to the loss of parking privileges. It is strongly emphasized that students adhere to these regulations to uphold a safe and orderly campus environment. Compliance with these guidelines contributes to the overall well-being and organization of the school community.
**Dates for safety presentations will be sent to families this summer.
