Antrim Elementary School - February 17, 2024
Principal Corner
Hello AES families,
Love and kindness were in the air this week! There aren't many places that are better than an elementary school on Valentine's Day. Students put so much time into making valentines for each classmate and were excited to share in class parties in the afternoon. On Friday our community meeting celebrated the culmination of Kindness week by recognizing all students for the many random acts of kindness they completed and special Eagle Certificates were presented to students in each class.
Lion's Club - Partnerships with community organizations are expanding again this month. We will work with members of the Lions Club to create lunch bunches, a hobbies club and members have offered to come to the school to share their expertise on a wide variety of careers and extensive knowledge of local government. We look forward to watching these programs blossom and grow into the spring. When we return from break the Lion's will begin joining us for lunch once each week.
Valentine's Day is right around the corner. At AES, each classroom traditionally holds their own events for that day. Please look for a communication over the upcoming week from your child's classroom teacher regarding any celebrations for the 14th of February.
Crazy 8's - Crazy 8's begins this week! The PTO is sponsoring the 8 week program, Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 - 4:30, beginning February 21st. Please remember to send your child with an extra snack on Wednesdays if they are participating in the club.
AES Facebook Page - Follow us on Facebook for up to the minute details and pictures of our day.
Kindergarten Registration - Will your child be 5 years old by September? Yes? Come to Kindergarten registration at Antrim Elementary School on Tuesday February 20th.
Warmest wishes,
Beth Gibney — Principal

First Friends 2- This week in class we have been having lots of fun with Valentine's Day. We read books, made crafts, and shared our Valentine cards with friends.
It was also Kindness Week. Everyone has been working hard to show kindness throughout their day. The students have earned hearts for our classroom bulletin board when they were caught in the act showing kindness. Picture in Drive
First Friends 1
We’ve earned hearts for being kind and put some of the ways on the big heart poster. We’ve had fun with stories, games, and art projects. We made funny “noodle bowls” with Ms. B after learning about the sound of the letter N!

One of our favorite things to do in Ms. Lawler’s class is go into the woods during our Forest Fridays! Not only is it a great opportunity for students to explore the natural world, but it lends itself to imagination, creativity, and teamwork. For the past two weeks, a group of students have been working together to create a home for a salamander. So far the house includes a garden, windows, a basement and even spy cameras! Come Spring, some lucky salamander is going to have a pretty amazing home!
Ms. Dibble’s class started the week celebrating Lexia levels being complete by spending some time in the forest! We also spent the whole week learning about kindness, celebrating kindness, and doing projects for kindness. One of our biggest kindness celebrations was Valentine’s Day, where we got to exchange some valentines and say thank you to our classmates that shared with us. Thank you to the amazing families that donated snacks to our celebration!
Grade 1
This week first graders in Mrs. DiFolco’s class celebrated their 100th day of learning! They enjoyed the math and literacy activities in the classroom related to the number 100. What a FUN day of learning!
What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day AND Kindness Week than with a book? We read the story, Love Monster by Rachel Bright and wrote how we can be good friends towards other. In math, we’ve been practicing place value and representing numbers in various ways.
Grade 2
The second graders began learning about units of measure with a heavy focus on centimeters! We had a lot of fun going around our classroom and measuring items! Did you know our whiteboard is 1 meter and 19 centimeters long?
Kindness week has been awesome! We continue working to earn kindness links!
Keep up the great work, second grade!
Grade 3
Third graders participated in a zoom call with Jaffrey-Rindge fifth graders, Susie Spikol from the Harris Center, and Drew Stevens from New Hampshire Turtle Rescue this week. Drew answered questions that both classes had about turtles and told us more about the program that allows us to have four turtles in our classroom this year. It was great to meet with an expert and learn new things!
Grade 4
In 4th grade we have been learning about fractions. Students are working hard to find equivalent fractions and are practicing converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. This week we’ve also had fun celebrating Kindness Week. Students worked together to generate a list of acts of kindness and enjoyed illustrating their ideas for our giant heart puzzles, and decorated doors!
In classroom lessons this week, kindergarteners have been learning about effective problem solving. So far, they have learned about saying the problem without blame and the need to calm down before attempting to solve problems. First, second, third and fourth-grade students are continuing to learn about bullying, focusing most recently on reporting a reporting an “upstander.”
