STEM Around Brooklyn
PreK
PreK learned about how matter can change from a liquid to a solid. They made butter and got to taste it!
Kindergarten
KG designed and built paintbrushes! Great job!
First Grade
First grade is learning about how the length of our shadow changes throughout the day, depending on where the sun is in the sky.
Second Grade
Second grade designed landscapes with bushes, tarps, pins, or retaining walls to prevent erosion during a flood for the final project in their Changing Earth module.
Third Grade
Third grade took a survey to begin their Variation of Traits unit. They learned what traits make them unique, such as dimples, freckles, detached earlobes, and more!
Fourth Grade
Fourth graders are learning the different ways mechanical and chemical weathering changes the Earth's landscapes. We are completing an investigation using plaster, beans, and water balloons!
PTO FUNDRAISER SUCCESS đđ
Our Fall Mum Fundraiser earned $4,000 for the Brooklyn STEM Academy PTO! We are so appreciative to all who purchased mums and those who volunteered their time to help pass them out to families. Student fundraiser prize bags were distributed to students the morning of October 1st, and the Ice Cream Sundae Party will take place at school on Friday, October 3rd, for our top sellers! We can't wait to see everyone at our next PTO event, Grandparents' Night, on October 23rd. More information on that event coming soon!
ASYNCHRONOUS E-LEARNING DAY OCTOBER 8TH
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. What if our family does not have internet access?
Wi-Fi ACCESS POINTS: The district has added outdoor access points to each school (and the Central Education Center/389 E. Jackson Street) to provide Wi-Fi for district devices. Families can park in the parking lot of each school or at the Central Education Center and download homework from their teachers, then complete the assignment offline while at home. Students will be able to upload assignments once finished and back on the districtâs Wi-Fi. Every school in the district has at least one outdoor access point.
For an extended weather break, please contact your childâs teacher to arrange an alternate plan as needed.
2. Does the work assigned during eLearning days count?
Yes; work assigned during the eLearning days will count towards the studentsâ cumulative course grades.
3. How can I get technology support?
Please contact the districtâs Tech Helpdesk with chromebook/device questions during remote learning at 765-342-6641, extension 1071 or by email, helpdesk@msdmartinsville.org.
4. If my child is a Kindergartner or 1st grade student, will my student be able to take a device home?
Teachers will be sending home devices and chargers for Kindergartners and 1st graders if the district is predicting a possible eLearning Day because of weather. (For Kindergarteners, for the Oct. 8th eLearning day, paper packets will be sent home for their learning instead of chromebooks. First grade will send devices home.)

SALES BEGIN FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3RD!
September 15, 2025
As we begin a busy season of school and holiday activities, I would like to make you aware of our procedures and communication plan concerning the possibility of inclement weather:
Weather decisions are made by our team who monitor conditions closely.
When determining a delay, early dismissal, or cancellation of school, countywide weather conditions are reviewed. In addition, we utilize the National Weather Service website @ www.nws.noaa.gov/om/cold/wind_chill.shtml
Communication
Before school, a decision will be made by 5:30 AM and communicated to you and your family in the following ways:
Staff/ parents will be notified through an all-call using ParentSquare. (Telephone numbers are generated from our Skyward database. At your convenience, please check Family Access to ensure your telephone number is up-to-date for this academic year.)
Communication will be added to the District's website and social media accounts: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, MSD of Martinsville
Communication will be sent to the following radio and TV stations: WCBK, WISH 8, WRTV-6, WTHR-13, Fox-59.
This information can also be found on our website, https://msdofmartinsville.org/transportation-and-safety/.
Early Dismissal
As weather conditions in our area can change quickly, an early dismissal may be necessary. We will make a decision concerning dismissal as early as possible, then call parents through ParentSquare and communicate information to our website, social media, and local media.
I encourage you as a family to develop a weather plan. For example, if parents or guardians work, students should know where to go if there is an early dismissal or a two-hour delay.
I hope this information is helpful as we work together planning for inclement weather events. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Eric Bowlen
Superintendent
