College and Career Corner
Lake Orion High School's Career Center provides students and families the resources necessary to ensure post secondary planning is current and seamless. Please visit our website often to see what is happening! In the Career Center, students can ask questions about Xello and their EDPs, obtain Work Permits, and receive information about Service Hours.
Service Learning
Students are required to obtain 20 service hours to graduate from LOHS. They may acquire these hours at any time during their four years. September offers many opportunities for service including the Dragon Trails Triathlon, the Orion Library book sale, Orion Enrichment Mom2Mom Sale, LO DDA Kid’s Outdoor Movie Night, Orion Parks Fall Fest and more! Students were sent an email with over 60 hours of local opportunities available this month. Remember to log all summer service hours by September 30! Please reach out to our Service Learning Associate Kristi Pavelich with any questions you may have.
College, Military, and Trade School Visits
College, Military and Trade School Admission visits begin September 15 and are 30 minutes, DURING the school day, in Extended Learning Space A. They are an opportunity for our students to learn more about different types of schools, their campus and the academic programs they offer. Even if a student thinks they know where they want to attend after high school, this enables them to learn about someplace new they might never have the opportunity to explore otherwise! This is also a great time to ask questions of a school they are planning to attend. Each Friday, the list is resent, after LOAM, due to additions or cancellations. Students sign up via a signup genius link accessible only through their LOHS email. Hall passes are sent the day of the visit, and students are responsible for keeping track of their own appointments.
Explore Careers in Public Safety - Sept 14
On Monday, September 14, LOHS students will have the opportunity to Honor Local Patriots by Exploring Careers in Public Safety during lunches. Representatives from the Oakland County Sheriff’s department’s patrol, dispatch and canine units, the Lake Orion Fire Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, and Oakland Community College’s fire, police and EMT/paramedic academies will share both aspects of their daily life and career pathways and job training.
RCU Nursing and Allied Health Day Sept 16
LO Lotto theme for Friday, September 11
LO-AM
A variety of games/sports (including freshmen & JV) will be live-streamed throughout the week via the automated cameras at various venues, both home and away. Our website will always have the direct link to the legitimate streaming site.

Attendance Spotlight
What is School DIsmissal Manager?
School Dismissal Manager (SDM) is a website and smartphone app for reporting absences and early dismissals. It is easy to use and then you do not have to call the school.
- First time users must sign in to SDM using the welcome email sent to families at the end of August. Email Ms. Humes for assistance.
- When signing your child out early, please remind them to check their email for the SDM confirmation.
- They will need to show the SDM confirmation email to their teacher and the front door attendance clerk when leaving.
- There’s no need for parent/guardian to come into the building once permission has been given via SDM or phone call.
If further assistance is needed:
- For SDM, contact Ms. Humes at patricia.humes@lok12.org or 248-693-5420 option 1.
- For the early dismissal line, please contact Veronica Estell at 248-693-5420 option 2.
LOHS Pick Up and Drop Off Procedures
To help keep our morning traffic flowing smoothly, please ensure your student exits the car promptly when you pull into the drop-off loop. The loop is designed for quick drop-off and pick-up only. If you need a few extra moments with your student, we kindly ask that you use the parking spaces located in the loop instead. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping the line moving safely and efficiently for all families.
- LOHS drop off and pick up entrance for students is from SCRIPPS RD only.
- Please pull forward in the student drop-off loop as far as you can before having your student exit/enter the vehicle.
- DO NOT use the Staff Lot or Bus Loop for picking up or dropping off students.
- Students are NO longer allowed to park in the lower pool lot.
Parking Passes
This is a friendly reminder that any student driving to school must have a valid parking pass. Parking passes help us ensure that we know which vehicles belong on campus and keep our parking lot safe and organized.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to email Mr. Kiner or have your student stop by the Main Office.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in keeping our campus safe.
Device Protection/Insurance - Deadline Oct 2
Device Protection Deadline: October 2, 2026
Lake Orion Community Schools(LOCS) offers an optional protection coverage for district assigned devices. LOCS also recognizes multiple costs for a family might be a deterrent, so a family or household maximum dollar amount is also available. To cover each device in the household you would need to purchase coverage for each individual device: a single device is $51.75. The family plan will only be an option once you add up the total of all the optional coverage you would like to purchase and that dollar amount is greater than $174.50 which is the maximum.
2026-2027 Device Protection Sign-Up Form Click Here.
*If you have a family that has been approved for free & reduced services, please contact the technology department for rates*
If you need to purchase replacement items or pay deposit for device repair, click here.
If you have any questions, please contact the Technology Department at 248-814-1798 or email Tracy.Aceron@lok12.org.
ParentSquare Information
LOCS uses ParentSquare in two ways (Posts and Messages) to communicate from the district, school and teacher level.
- District-level messages: District newsletters that feature topics that affect a majority of the nearly 7,000 students, such as snow days, district-wide events and messages from the Superintendent about important issues.
- School-level messages: School weekly newsletters from the principal, information following safety drills, and in-school opportunities, including athletics and after-school opportunities.
- Teacher-level messages: Elementary class and middle school team newsletters and updates include class-related events and academic reminders. ParentSquare also features direct messaging for staff to communicate directly with individual families about their student’s issues.
As a reminder, families are already enrolled in ParentSquare as their PowerSchool profiles are imported into the platform. Here is a video for families to get started with ParentSquare. LOCS also has an informational page at LakeOrionSchools.org ParentSquare. Don't forget families do have the ability to tweak the platform to your desired communications.
- App -- For even more convenience, download the ParentSquare app (from the App Store or Google Play). While communications will still be received without the app as email and text messages, it is a significant asset for families.
- Notifications -- Families will be able to easily adjust their notification settings to determine when and if they receive updates (email, text, app). Messages are scheduled to arrive in the evening each day, unless the family changes its settings to receive instantly. Urgent/important messages will be pushed through instantly, even without family changes.
- Language – Families can adjust their desired language preferences.
Have questions once you log into ParentSquare? Click the question mark in the top right corner of the desktop version or the Help tab on the app (tap the triple bar icon at the top left) to find answers to most of your questions.
Additional questions can be directed to the LOCS Communications Department at communications@lok12.org.
OSTC Calendar
If you are an Oakland Schools Technical Campus (OSTC) student, be advised you will have varying schedules on Wednesdays. It is important to review this information as to not miss classes in either location.
This schedule has been shared with our Northeast and Northwest campuses, as well as LOHS Staff. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your counselors.
Immunizations for School
Whenever children are brought into group settings, there is a chance for diseases to spread. Children must follow the Michigan state vaccine laws to attend school. For more information about vaccines and waivers, please visit LOCS Central enrollment, or contact Mrs. Patricia Humes, the attendance secretary.
ATHLETICS
Looking for information about participating as a student athlete, the athletic schedule, or how to purchase tickets to sporting events, please visit the athletics website. Go Dragons!
Why Daily Attendance Matters
Did you know...?
Missed Lessons = Falling Behind: Even one day can mean missing critical instructions and activities, making it harder for your child to catch up.
Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.
Who to contact if your child is not attending school?
