Grandview Elementary
Parent/ Family Update - August 1, 2025

September 19, 2025
From the Principal:
Dear Grandview Families,
“We’re on the move at Grandview!” This week has been full of excitement and new routines as we rolled out our updated dismissal system. On Monday, September 15th, we began using this new process, and I want to thank you for your support, feedback, and patience as we work through the kinks. Our goal is to make dismissal as safe and smooth as possible for all of our Tigers.
A quick reminder for families of car riders:
-
Please stay in your car in the car line.
-
All car riders wait with Mr. Forshey, who matches car tags with students.
-
If you typically walk up to the building to pick up your car rider, we will adjust their tag to reflect a “walker” status instead.
If you have any questions or need clarification about our dismissal procedures, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Working together helps keep every student safe at the end of the school day—thank you for being an essential part of that!
Looking for Ways to Get Involved?
We’d love to have you! Volunteers make a big difference in our school community. Right now, we are seeking volunteers to:
- Copy daily materials for teachers and students
- Read with students
- Assist in the cafeteria during lunch
If you’re interested, please complete this form- we’d be happy to get you connected!

Bullying Information and Tips:
What is Bullying?
Bullying is behavior that:
-
Involves an imbalance of power
-
Is unwanted and harmful
-
Is likely to be repeated
Why This Matters
Sometimes behaviors are labeled as “bullying” when they may not meet the definition. Understanding what bullying truly is helps students, families, and educators respond appropriately and support all children effectively.

What to Do if Your Child Is Experiencing Bullying:
-
Open Communication: Remind your child they can always talk to you about challenging situations at school, including conflict and bullying.
-
Listen First: When your child shares, listen calmly, gather details, and acknowledge their bravery before responding.
-
Make a Plan Together: Discuss options such as talking to the person bullying, staying close to friends, or telling a teacher. Role-play scenarios to practice how to handle situations.
-
Decide on Reporting: Depending on your child’s age and the situation, decide together whether to report it alone or with your help.
-
Review School Policy: Look over the school’s policies (often in the handbook or on the website) to see required actions and available supports.
-
Meeting with the School: If a meeting is needed, inform your child, send a written request with their account of the incidents, and focus on solutions rather than blame. Keep a documented record of your discussions with the school.
Handling Cyberbullying:
-
Don’t answer back
-
Save messages for reporting
-
Tell an adult
-
Block the person bullying
-
Report it on the online platform (e.g., Instagram)
-
Notify the school if it involves classmates or the school community
Also use these moments to educate your child about online safety—sharing personal information cautiously and setting strong privacy settings on social media.
Proactive Strategies for Well-Being and Resilience
-
Teach Assertiveness: Help your child express themselves confidently and firmly while respecting others.
-
Build Connections: If your child feels lonely, brainstorm ways to make new friends at school or in the community, such as joining activities or reaching out to family friends.
-
Regular Check-Ins: Talk with your child about school, relationships, activities, and pressures. Encourage them to use specific emotion words and practice regulation strategies to manage strong feelings.
-
Family Reading: Try some of our recommended books to read and discuss together at home.
Please remember, I’m here to help support our Tigers. If you have concerns about your child, don’t hesitate to reach out.
