Why YOUR Homeroom Teacher Matters
Homeroom Teacher (HRT) key roles and responsibilities:
- Consistent Point of Contact - Keeps all necessary parties informed about your events (i.e., absences, power outage, emergencies, etc.), helps address common questions/concerns, finds points of contact, and provides additional school resources.
- Personal Administrative Duties - Monitors overall attendance and engagement, files excused absence notes, and assists with progress monitoring assessments.
- Academic Guidance - Ensures students are on track with courses and helps navigate any challenges with this process (i.e., pass plans, 1-1 meetings, teacher requests, etc.).

ARVA Students Should...
Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH)
Our commitment is to collaboratively build a high-performing school culture where students feel both loved and intellectually challenged. Together, we strive to create an atmosphere that promotes growth and excellence for all our students.
We look forward to building positive relationships with all of our students and their families during the 2024-2025 academic year!
May Word-of-the-Month: INTEGRITY
Integrity is the ability and willingness to live with honesty and excellence. People who act with integrity make a choice to do the right thing, no matter who is watching. Integrity is the foundation on which we build relationships and trust.
- Integrity generates trust. When we are honest and follow through on promises, we gain the confidence of our team; Trust allows us to collaborate and achieve more together.
- Integrity encourages self-assessment. Integrity requires our regular self-assessment to align behaviors with our goals and self-beliefs.
- Integrity is essential in leadership. Great leaders decrease anxiety and build strong teams when they are honest, consistent, and responsible.
Integrity in Action:
- Acknowledge and affirm acts of integrity. Publicly praise classmates and teachers who model acts of integrity such as honesty and honor.
- Create a culture of accountability. Make sure you give feedback. Rate the class based on your Social Contract and discuss what went well in class. This helps not only you, but your instructors make classroom improvements.
CKH Leadership Mindsets
Cultivate your personal leadership skills and reflect on your own leadership by understanding the three leadership mindsets:
- EXCEL = Focus on the future with a "whatever it takes" attitude
- Average = Focus on the present with a "whatever I'm asked" attitude
- Minimum = Focus on the past with a "whatever" attitude
Remember, we want to be EXCEL Leaders inside our classroom!
Four Questions for Misbehavior
As a part of the Capturing Kids' Hearts® Discipline Model™, the CKH Four Questions for Misbehavior helps students maintain boundaries while preserving the relationship.
