Coaches Corner
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It’s hard to believe we’re approaching the end of September! Time flies when you are learning and having fun! We have been working hard, taking our MAP assessment in both Reading and Math. Hopefully your child shared their score with you and were excited about the growth they made. Be on the lookout for your child’s MAP report at Parent Teacher Conferences next week. The report will explain your child’s reading and math scores. If you have any questions about how they performed, please let your teacher know.
At Jacob, we use Illustrative Mathematics for our Math curriculum. Most classes are well into their second unit of study. Each grade level will have 8-9 units they will complete before the year ends. Here is a quick snap shot of what our students have been working on.
Kindergarten:
Unit - Math in Our World
Unit 2 - Numbers 1-10
First Grade:
Unit 1 - Adding, Subtracting, and Working with Data
Unit 2 - Addition and Subtraction Story Problems
Second Grade:
Unit 1 - Adding, Subtracting, and Working with Data
Unit 2 - Adding and Subtracting within 100
Third Grade:
Introducing Multiplication
Area and Multiplication
Fourth Grade:
Factors and Multiples
Fraction Equivalence and Comparison
Fifth Grade:
Finding Volume
Fractions as Quotients and Fraction Multiplication
Please talk to your child about what they are learning, what they are finding successful in math, and what they find challenging. There are many wonderful opportunities to reinforce math at home. Many classrooms have started introducing math games that only require a deck of cards. Ask your child if they know games they can play at home. If they don’t ask your child’s teacher to share ideas!
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at 485-8271.
