September 11, 2026

In 2001, Congress designated September 11 as Patriot Day, a National Day of Service and Remembrance to be observed each year "to honor the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001" (Congress.gov Patriot Day Fact Sheet). Patriot Day is sometimes also referred to as "September 11" or "9/11."
The 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York coordinates an annual Patriot Day observance centered around six moments of silence. The organization also provides guidance for those who may wish to plan their own observance. Visit the 9/11 Memorial and Museum website to learn more.
Elementary Highlights
From the Principal: Every Day Counts ~ Attendance Matters!
When students are here, they thrive! Consistent daily attendance is one of the most powerful drivers of your child’s academic progress, confidence, and connection to our school community. To celebrate these great habits, every month we acknowledge students with perfect attendance!
Did You Know?
Early Literacy: Children who attend school regularly in Kindergarten and 1st grade are significantly more likely to read proficiently by 3rd grade.
The "Two Days" Impact: Missing just two days of school per month adds up to 10% of the entire school year, making it much harder to keep up with foundational math and reading skills.
Building Belonging: Daily routines build confidence, strengthen peer friendships, and give students a strong sense of connection to their peers and teachers.
Thank you for partnering with us to build strong attendance habits. If your family ever needs support getting your student to school on time, please reach out—we are always here to help!
The ASB Buzz: Sports Passes, and Spirit Days
We are thrilled to launch our brand-new Elementary Associated Student Body (ASB) program this school year! Our student leaders are already hard at work brainstorming spirit days, community service projects, and fun campus initiatives to make our school an even brighter, more connected place for every student.
Why We Are Launching ASB
Empowering Young Leaders: Gives elementary students a direct voice in shaping school culture and leading positive change.
Building Community: Directly funds student-led assemblies, spirit weeks, recognition programs, and campus improvements.
Fostering Responsibility: Teaches early teamwork, civic engagement, and leadership skills.
How ASB Membership Works To support these student-led projects and activities, we are introducing an annual $10 Elementary ASB card.
Perks for Your Family:
Free Admission to Home Games: Every student with an ASB card receives a card granting free entry to all home sporting events (regular student admission is $5.00 per game). Attending just two home games completely pays for the card!
Direct Student Impact: 100% of these funds go straight into student activities.
Payment Details
Cost: $10.00 per student
Payment Method: Cash or Check turned into the office or credit card on Skyward

Level 1 Complete! Project-Based High School Kicks Off the Year with an Epic Cardboard Arcade!
Talk about a high-score start to the school year! Our Project-Based High School students dove headfirst into hands-on learning with a massive, high-energy challenge: design and construct a fully functional arcade game out of cardboard.
This was way more than just tape and cardboard—our high school engineers had to tackle real-world design constraints:
Get Mechanical: Every game had to feature a working mechanical element (think pulleys, levers, gravity returns, or trapdoors).
Elementary-Approved: The design had to be so intuitive that a younger student could walk up, play, and have fun without needing a single written direction.
Test, Fail, & Rebuild: When a marble got stuck or a lever snapped, students had to troubleshoot the flaw, test new ideas, and redesign until it worked smoothly.
Through every test and rebuild, our high schoolers flexed their creative muscles, mastered teamwork, and lived out the true engineering and design process from start to finish.
The ultimate payoff? When we watch our elementary students step up to test the finished games and play alongside the high schoolers who built them. What an awesome, inspiring way to set the tone for the school year!
What’s really in the water around Reardan—and how would you find out?
That’s the question our Project-Based High School chemistry students are working to answer as they take chemistry out of the textbook and into our local community.
So far, students have chosen a water contaminant to investigate, researched its chemistry and potential impacts, identified local locations to collect water samples, created 3D models to show what’s happening at the molecular level, and developed their own lab procedures for testing their samples.
Next comes the exciting part—collecting the water and putting their lab designs to the test.
This is project-based learning in action: real questions, local connections, hands-on science, and students figuring out how to find the answers.

Security Update
The recent incident at Evergreen Middle School in Spokane Valley hits close to home and understandably may cause concern for parents and our community.
Events like this are a reminder of why we take school safety and security so seriously. Our students and staff are our number one priority. We are committed to maintaining a safe learning environment through ongoing training, emergency preparedness, a full-time trained security professional on campus, and continual improvements to our physical security.
While we can never predict every situation, we can prepare, train, and continually work to strengthen our ability to respond to emergencies.
Thank you to our parents and families for trusting us with what matters most—your children. It is a responsibility we take seriously and an honor to help protect and care for the students and staff of Reardan-Edwall Schools.

Nutrition Services
We’ve made it through our third week of school already! These first few weeks have gone by so quickly.
Here are a couple of snapshots from the kitchen this week. A scratch-made pasta salad and one of the meals served to our students.
We’re continuing to learn what our students enjoy and making some adjustments along the way. It’s been a busy start to the school year, and we’re looking forward to what’s ahead!
P.S. A quick reminder for families: If you haven’t completed your Child Nutrition Eligibility and Education Benefit Application yet, also known as the CNEEB, there’s still time! You can find it under Food Services on our school website.
