Dear Jaguar Families,

Next week is one of my favorite celebrations of the year—Staff Appreciation Week—and our incredible PTA has planned a totally rad 90s‑themed celebration to honor our #AHE‑mazing staff!

Every day, our teachers and support staff pour their hearts into our students. They show up with dedication, creativity, and compassion—helping our students grow, thrive, and shine. Next week is a chance to show them just how much the AHE community appreciates everything they do.

Our fabulous PTA has put together a full lineup of 90s‑style fun, treats, and surprises to make our staff feel like VIPs. But to make this week “all that and a bag of chips,” we need your help!

Families can get involved in two ways:

1. Volunteer for a time slot to help make each event run smoothly.
2. Donate items from the requested list.

Last year, we had to remove all of our pictures, artwork, and framed memorabilia from the hallways as we prepared for our school renovation. We have so many wonderful photos and pieces from Abbotts Hill’s past that deserve to be displayed again.

I would love to create a gallery wall that brings these memories back to life. I have a vision for it, but I’m looking for a parent volunteer who has a good eye for decorating—and a little time to help make it happen!

This would be such a meaningful way to help brighten our hallways and celebrate the history of Abbotts Hill.

It is time for the election of new members to our School Governance Council. The School Governance Council has both parent/guardian and teacher positions open for election. Parents or guardians of students who will be attending our school during both the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years are eligible to run for the parent/guardian SGC positions.

Our School Governance Council (SGC) plays a critical role in the success of our school. The SGC works with school leadership and the community to help determine the long-term direction of the school, design innovative solutions to increase academic achievement, and serve as school ambassadors to the local community. Specifically, the School Governance Council has the following responsibilities:

• Create, approve, and monitor the implementation of the school strategic plan

• Manage the Request for Flexibility process

• Approve the annual budget recommendations and related allocations

• Participate in the hiring of the principal, in the case of a vacancy

• Provide annual feedback to the Area Superintendent on principal performance

If you are interested in running for a position on the School Governance Council, please complete and submit a Candidate Declaration Form. Forms will be available on Monday, February 2nd.

We are very excited about the work and value-add of our SGC. We hope that you will consider

running for a position! The Candidate Declaration period ends March 27th and voting will take place April 22 – April 29. In the meantime, if you would like more information about the charter system or SGC elections visit our school’s website or the Charter System Overview.

🛼 AHE Staff Appreciation Week – 90s Style! 😎

We think our AHE staff is totally awesome, and during Staff Appreciation Week we want to treat them like VIPs—90s style! We can’t make this happen without your help and support.

🌍 International Night – Thursday, March 26, 5:00-8:00 PM

We’re excited to bring back International Night and make it even better than last year! Join the Abbotts Hill community for a special evening celebrating our school’s diversity through food, music, performances, and cultural traditions from around the world.

If you signed up for a booth, please note that pictures of your displays are due this Friday, March 20th. Be sure to review the sign-up form for instructions on how to submit your photos.

We are excited to celebrate our 5th Graders. To make this week unforgettable, we are putting together committees to help with the planning and execution of these activities. We still have a few committee spots open if you would like to help with one or two of the activities. Your involvement will help make these days even more special!

The process for assigning students to classes for the 2026–2027 school year begins 2nd semester. Each student’s individual needs are carefully considered, and significant effort is made to place every child in the most appropriate learning environment.

Completion of the Student Placement Consideration Form is not required. If you would like to provide additional information for the Placement Team’s consideration, please complete the online form no later than Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Emails or phone calls regarding class placement will not be accepted. Requests for specific teachers will not be considered and submissions received after the deadline cannot be accommodated.

While the Placement Team values parent input, please understand that not all requests can be honored. Thank you for your partnership as we work to support each student’s success.

Abbotts Hill Elementary 2026-2027 School Student Placement Consideration Form – Fill out form

Students in Grades 3-5 take the Georgia Milestones Assessment to measure how well they have learned the knowledge and skills outlined in the state adopted content standards.

For our 3rd-5th grade families, Georgia Milestones testing is right around the corner! Students in Grades 3 and 4 will test from April 29–May 6, and Grade 5 will test from April 29–May 7. To help your child do their best, please plan any doctor appointments, vacations, or other absences outside of these testing dates. Thank you for partnering with us to support a smooth and successful testing experience for all students!
