Serving Up Figurative Language Serving Up Figurative Language

The 9th grade College Prep English students in Ms. Madelyn Strocko’s class at the High School have spent the past week learning about identifying and using figurative language. The students worked collaboratively in groups to design a restaurant and menu using figurative language. It was a competition to see who could use the language to create the most enticing restaurant! They participated in a “dine out” day where they traveled to each restaurant and figuratively ordered from the menus. Some students went above and beyond by making the food items on their menu and bringing them in for their peers!

This event was held for aspiring teachers, school counselors, and social workers. Our students attended several workshops on what it takes to be a teacher, how to be a "kid magnet," and overcoming adversity to make a difference for future generations. Our students learned more information on Shippensburg's Education program by talking to current college students and their experiences. Our students left the field trip feeling empowered and excited for their futures!
