Lenten Prayer

Almighty and Everlasting God,
You have given the human race
Jesus Christ our Savior as a model of humility.
He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man
And giving His life on the Cross.
Help us to bear witness to You
By following His example of suffering
And make us worthy to share in His Resurrection.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.

Amen.

NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE NEWS FROM MRS MCCLUE

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe we are almost at the end of Term 1. It has been wonderful to see the students so engaged in their learning this year. As a school, we have been very focused on data-informed teaching practices, and targeting students learning where it is needed. Data is a very important part of the teaching and learning cycle, and it allows us to ensure we are meeting students at their point of need, and continuously building on their knowledge.

Our Year 3 and 5 students have undertaken NAPLAN assessments this past week. Whilst NAPLAN is a good source of data for us as a school, to monitor student and school progress, it is always important to contextualise this, as one piece of information on a given day. Having said that, I congratulate the Year 3 and 5 students for the mature and studious manner that they undertook these assessments and to their teachers for their gentle support in administering these nationwide assessments.

We are seeking expressions of interest from parents who may be interested in joining a committee (comprised of parents and staff) to discuss and plan the special events to commemerate this milestone. A reminder that if you are interested on assisting with the planning and coordination of the 60th Anniversary celebrations please complete this form: https://forms.office.com/r/t5sD5DXdyF. Thank you to those parents who have already put their name forward to assist.

Meeting of the Minds

Today, our Year 6 THINQERs students participated in a "Meeting of the Minds" excursion. This is a collaborative event that is held with a network of Year 6 Gifted & Talented students. Students are given the opportunity to engage in learning tasks that challenge them to problem solve and use their critical and creative thinking skills.

Today's event was hosted by St Luke's Primary School, and also included students from Our Lady's Assumption, Our Lady of Grace, St Peter's and Holy Spirit Primary Schools. Students undertook a range of tasks that included MENSA Challenges, STEM activities, Rubic's Cube Puzzles and Spontaneous Challenges. They also had the opportunity to hear from students in the Gifted & Talented programs at Sacred Heart College and Mater Dei College. I extend my thanks to Mrs Ciullo for the huge time and energy she devotes to our THINQERs program, so that these opportunities can be afforded to our students.

Happy Easter

This year, as we reflect on the theme of new life at Easter, let us focus on the importance of family and connection. Easter is a time for families to come together, to celebrate, and to strengthen the bonds that unite us. Whether you are celebrating with a traditional Easter meal, attending mass, or spending quality time together, may this Easter be a time of joy, love, and togetherness for you and your loved ones.

Wishing you all a happy Easter filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments.

Partnership in action

The work of Caritas Australia is only possible with the dedication, passion and tenacity of our local partners who implement the programs. They are the heroes on the ground, working tirelessly behind-the-scenes every day to create a better future for their communities.

Caritas Australia partners with the Faithful Companions of Jesus (FCJ) to support communities living in urban slums in the Philippines. FCJ runs a number of programs that include house renovating, food processing, basic literacy skills, urban gardening, upcycling and income generating activities. They also have a clinic visited weekly by a doctor and community nurse.

Caritas Australia partners with Caritas Samoa to assist communities to have increased access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene to ensure human health and well-being by providing water tanks and sanitation facilities.

Caritas Australia partners with the Catholic Development Commission in Malawi through the A+ program. Since 2016, the A+ program has helped 7,397 families across Malawi improve their food security, access to basic water and sanitation, boost women’s income generation and strengthen child protection.

Please donate to Project Compassion.

Together, we can help vulnerable communities face their challenges today and build a better tomorrow for all future generations.

You can donate through Project Compassion donation boxes, online by visiting caritas.org.au/project-compassion or by calling 1800 024 413.

LENT LENT

Last week, we celebrated St. Patrick's Day. St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is widely celebrated for his role in bringing Christianity to Ireland. Born in Roman Britain around the late 4th century, he was captured by Irish raiders as a teenager and taken to Ireland as a slave. During his captivity, he embraced Christianity, finding solace in his faith. After escaping his enslavement, Patrick became a cleric and returned to Ireland as a missionary, driven by a deep desire to spread the Christian gospel. He travelled extensively, preaching and establishing churches, monasteries, and schools across the country. He used the shamrock, a three-leaf clover, to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity, which became a symbol associated with him.

PARKING AT DROP OFF AREAS PARKING AT DROP OFF AREAS

It is essential that parents adhere to road and street regulations when dropping off and collecting their child. It is a regular occurrence to see:

- Parents entering the staff carpark with their vehicle to drop off and pick up children

- Cars parked across the footpath on Miles Street

- Vehicles not giving way to children crossing outside the church drive-through

We do not want to have to engage the services of the CoS Rangers, however, we will be obliged to do this for the safety of our students if parents fail to adhere to safe driving and parking practices.

“A message of heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the OLGC school community for the out pouring of prayers, love, and generosity since my car accident on the long weekend.

We could never have imagined the overflowing support our family have received during this time and it is a true testament to our wonderful school and the families that fill it.

As I begin my slow recovery at home, I am hugely grateful to be alive and am reminded just how precious each day is that we get to share together.

Sending my love and thanks to you all - V Benedetti.”

YEAR 6 CAMP YEAR 6 CAMP

In week 6, the Year 6 students went to Dare Adventures Camp in Dwellingup for four days and three nights along with Miss Murphy and Mrs Pen.

On the first night, they made hot chocolates in their special camp cups. They participated in many activities including kayaking, mountain bike riding, abseiling, and orienteering.

Our students came away with full bellies, team building skills and a bag full of dirty clothes.

They even managed to spot two emus whilst mountain bike riding.

Overall, the students agreed that their favourite memory from camp was the movie night, even if they did come across two very large spiders.
