We are ecstatic to once again be offering the opportunity for the annual 4th and 5th grade Ashland School District inter-school elementary track meet! Our 4th and 5th graders have the chance to be involved in at least one track and field event as part of their Physical Education experience. Your student athlete will be traveling by bus with their classroom teacher to and from the event.

Date- May 16th, 2024.

Time- 10:30AM- 2PM

Location- Ashland High School Track. Go Grizzlies! Right Here

Information for Spectators

We welcome families to come and cheer on our Ashland athletes. It can be hard to predict when events will occur, so please use these times below as a loose guide to the order of the day.

10:30- Field events- (Softball throw, shot put, high jump, long jump).

11:15- Running events begin and proceed in the following order:

800 meter

75 yard dash

400 meter

70 yard hurdles

200 meter

400 meter relay

What does my student need to bring?

Each student needs to have a sack lunch marked with their name. Teachers will arrange for sack lunches with the cafeteria for any students that do not plan to bring a lunch from home. Since students will be completing their events at different times, they should eat periodically throughout the day as there is not a set lunch time.

· There will be water jugs with water to keep students hydrated, but in order to “keep it green”, please help encourage students to bring their own refillable water bottle.

· Sunscreen.

· Bring some shoes you are okay running in. No cleats or spikes though, yikes!

· Hat (optional).

May Meeting Minutes
Thank you to everyone who attended our final meeting of the year! Our next meeting will be in September. Meeting minutes from the May 8th meeting are included in this newsletter.

Track Update

After much careful, thoughtful consideration, the track upgrade project has been changed to a re-finishing/maintenance project. This will involve filling in all the potholes, weeding, adding one inch of decomposed granite to the path, and then steam rolling the path flat. The committee voted at the May meeting to spend up to $6,000 on this modified approach.

With the additional funds that are no longer required for the track, the committee has decided to allocate a large portion to the field trip/bus service line item in the budget. Also, the teachers' resources line item in the budget has also increased (as purchasing costs continue to increase in general). If there are further funds left over at the end of the year, there was discussion about creating a grant where teachers, EA's, parents, and students can submit their proposals to access the funds for school initiatives or supplies. This idea will be further discussed in September.

We believe these decisions better utilize the funds that we have available. Thank you to everyone for your input and collaboration on this project.

Ongoing need: Snacks Ongoing need: Snacks

We make some basic snacks available to students that don't have one in the office. The demand for snacks has grown exponentially this year. If you are able to pack a snack or two in your child's bag each day, please do! We are very active here at school and our student's brains need fuel for all that learning. If you are able to purchase any extra snacks to donate to the school, that would help our budget and our students tremendously. Please consider donating some healthy snacks if you are able. Thank you for all that you do to support our students!
