Students Wanted for Video Production Club - Limit 5 Students
Veritas Media Group will host 5 students in their studio for an 11 week class on Wednesdays after school. Instructed by Lucas Holtgeerts, this class is open to students 5th grade through 8th grade.
Lucas shared this: "Students will leave the course having produced their own short documentary from beginning to end as well as the group fundraiser video and will also have a rudimentary understanding of media literacy and have the tools needed to utilize the critical literacy skills they learn in language arts classes when consuming media of all forms." Click below for the 11 Week Course Overview.
The video produced by our students will be shown during the Virtual Auction to help raise funds for the Franklin Academy.
There are only five (5) spots available and the cost is $50 per student. We will take students on a first come first serve basis. Please contact Heather Black (360) 603-8582 or hblack@thefranklin.academy

The Reading Corner with Mrs. Samuel & Mrs. Snyder
Happy Fall!
What a great time of year to snuggle up with a good book and a mug of something warm to drink. Fall was made for readers!
Sharing a picture book with your younger children is a great way to inspire a future love of reading—they will associate that cozy feeling of being with you with reading books! If your grade schooler is looking for a good autumnal book, both the Redwall fantasy series (by Brian Jacques) and the Mismantle Chronicles series (by M. I. McAllister) feature anthropomorphic animals in cozy settings with plenty of high adventure. And you can’t go wrong with A Wrinkle in Time (by Madeline L’Engle)! Nothing says fall like the first line of this book: “It was a dark and stormy night.” If your middle schooler needs a good autumn-inspired book (and are ok with a wee bit of romance), the graphic novel Pumpkinheads (by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks) takes place in an actual pumpkin patch! If this weather is inspiring you to do some projects, Mrs. Snyder at Robin Hall library is in need of some help! Please see below.
Happy Reading, Mrs. Samuel
Donations
The Robin Hall library is currently in need of hardback early readers for our Kindergarten and first grade students. New or used books would be happily accepted as long as they are in good condition!
Volunteers
We have a TON of really great early readers, but unfortunately they are all paperbacks, which don’t withstand much use in a school library and are not easy to clean. However, I have about 30 clear book covers just waiting to be put on those books so we can make them available to all our emerging readers. This is a job that can be done in the comfort of your own home! If you have an hour or two to spare, I would gladly leave a handful of books and covers with Rachel Lee at the Robin Hall front desk.
I have to admit I don’t have a perfect way of applying those covers, so it may require a little research at first. Having a paper cutter helps, but is not required. If you think this sounds like a job for you, please contact Jennifer Snyder at: jsnyder@thefranklin.academy.
Thank you! Mrs. Snyder

Décor assistants
Help Wanted
PALS is looking for a few brave parents who would be willing to work inside the building occasionally to help decorate the lobbies for seasonal changes and to assist teachers with hanging art and projects in the halls. All work would be scheduled in advance, and completed during times when the halls are empty (during class or after school) to limit contact between volunteers and students. Volunteers will be screened prior to entry, and must wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines while working inside the building. Volunteers are needed for both Markell Hall and Robin Hall.
Scrip Coordinator
Help Wanted
PALS is seeking a volunteer to run the Scrip fundraising program. Scrip is fundraising through the purchase of gift cards. We buy them at a discounted rate, sell them at face value, and keep the difference as our profit. Our Scrip company has a brand-new app, RaiseRight, that allows for instant digital scrip purchases, that users can then immediately use for their own online or in-store purchases. We’re looking for someone willing to learn about this new app, and help adapt our program to fully embrace this new digital platform. The new coordinator will have mentorship available from 2 previous Scrip coordinators and lots of support from PALS!
Anyone interested in the above positions may contact PALS, pals@thefranklin.academy
Passport Club Coordinator
Help Wanted
The Passport Club is a beloved part of our 1-4th grade program. Due to safety restrictions, we cannot run the program as we have in the past, but we’ve found out that there’s a distance learning version of the program. We’re looking for a new coordinator to coordinate the distance-learning program for online and in-person learners. Anyone interested in taking up this role will work closely with PALS and the school to figure out how best to roll out the program to the school community. This would include, but not be limited to, passing out maps and passports to all students, coaching teachers and parents on how to access the online learning portal, and sending out monthly communication to make sure everyone has access to the monthly program links and passwords.
