This month, we’re focusing on respect, which comes in many forms: respect for life, for property, for parents, for elders, for nature, and for the beliefs and rights of others. Respect includes being courteous and polite, as well as respecting yourself by avoiding self-criticism. We can model respect for our children regarding how we speak to and treat them. Respect is not only an important character trait, but it can also be a source of real joy! Respect implies a certain appreciation, which makes us more aware of other people’s needs and feelings.

Congratulations to our talented students at Sheridan Middle school for their outstanding achievements in the annual Sheridan Headlight front page art contest! Pearl Tollett took second place with her mesmerizing snow globe piece, Sarah Daniels claimed third place with her captivating red birds artwork, and Katie Cypert received an honorable mention for her exceptional work. Special thanks to our amazing art teacher, Sherry Harmon, for guiding and inspiring these young artists.

Congratulations to Lily Johnson and Bryleigh Walker for winning 1st and 2nd place in the county wide Patriot's Pen Essay Contest! We are proud of you!

The SMS Choir (6th-8th Grade) delivered outstanding performances at the State Capitol on Friday, December 18th. We are incredibly proud of these talented students for representing our district with excellence and school pride. Following their Capitol performance, the choir traveled to Sheridan Intermediate School to share their music and spread Christmas cheer. Their voices filled the halls with the spirit of the season. Special recognition goes to Choir director Karissa Lindsey and to our dedicated students for their hard work and commitment to excellence in music.

Vickie Rhodes took home the win in this year's SMS 3rd annual soup/chili cook-off. She got to take home the golden spoon and $50 sponsored by Peoples Bank.

Sheridan Middle School is incredibly grateful to our amazing PTO for providing a delicious breakfast spread the week before Christmas Break, complete with coffee, muffins, sausage biscuits, and more! From the variety of coffee pods and creamers to all the thoughtful touches, you truly made our teachers feel appreciated and cared for this Christmas season. Thank you for your kindness and support - we're so thankful for all you do!

SMS ELA classes had a blast participating in a "book tasting" in the SMS Library before Christmas Break. Students were able to sample some of the new books throughout their four course "meal' and make notes about each book in their own menu. At the end of the tasting, students were able to order "to go" books to pick up in January when students return to school.
