IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Working Together for a Safe and Smooth Arrival and Dismissal

Dear Sierra Oaks Families,

Thank you for helping arrival and dismissal run smoothly and safely. Safety is a shared responsibility. Every driver, pedestrian, family member, and staff member plays a role in protecting our students. Your patience, kindness, and cooperation make a difference.

Please follow these expectations each day:

Use the curb lane for drop-off and pick-up. When entering near the marquee, stay in the lane closest to the curb. The left lane is for exiting only.
Pull forward as far as possible to make room for other vehicles, and remain in your vehicle while using the curb lane.
Keep red zones clear. Do not park or leave your vehicle unattended in these areas.
Respect staff parking. Spaces marked STAFF are reserved for staff. If you need to park and walk your student, use an unmarked parking space or legal street parking.
Do not stop near the stop sign or drop off or pick up students in the street. These actions block traffic and create unsafe situations.
Once your student has safely entered or exited your vehicle, check for pedestrians and vehicles before carefully moving into the left lane to exit.
Drive slowly, follow the posted speed limit, and wait your turn. Please do not cut in front of other drivers.
Treat families and staff with kindness and courtesy, and follow staff directions.

These expectations help protect every child, not just our own. By following the same procedures and looking out for one another, we can keep arrival and dismissal safe, welcoming, and on time.

Thank you for doing your part to care for our Cougar community!

Mrs. Chrostowski
Principal

We need your help!

Dear Sierra Oaks Families,

Please send your student to school in safe, secure shoes so they can fully participate in PE, recess, and other active parts of the school day. Our district’s dress code requires students to wear shoes with a heel strap. For school activities, please choose closed-toe shoes with a secure back or heel strap. Tennis/athletic shoes are the best choice. Open-toe sandals with not straps, slides, and open-back shoes, including backless Birkenstocks, are not appropriate.

Following recent safety incidents, misplaced shoes, and students removing their shoes, we will also review these expectations with students. Shoes must stay on throughout the school day, and heel straps must be worn securely behind the heel.

If a student arrives in inappropriate footwear, we will follow these steps:

First time: A friendly reminder to the student.
Second time: A call home requesting that a safer pair of shoes be brought to school.
Third time: The student will be asked to wear tennis/athletic shoes moving forward, rather than Crocs or other footwear.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep our Cougars safe, comfortable, and ready to learn and play!

Distraction to learning

Please remind your student to leave all toys, balls, squishies, and Pokémon cards at home, as these items are not allowed on campus. Thank you for helping us minimize distractions and keep students focused on learning!

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH

Student Attendance

Let’s show up, Cougars! On Wednesday, October 7, we’re holding a friendly attendance competition to encourage students to come to school and help their class shine!

Every student who attends helps their class work toward the attendance incentive. Let’s build great attendance habits, enjoy learning together, and show our Cougar pride!

Please help your student arrive on time and ready to learn.

Thank you for your partnership...every school day counts! 💙

Scholastic Book Fair

Dear families,

Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school!

Dates: October 9 – 17, 2026

Location: SIERRA OAKS LIBRARY

Family Event schedule and location: Open during the Harvest Festival on October 17!

School homepage: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/sierraoaksk8school

This is a great opportunity to build your child’s home library with new books that will get them excited about reading, while also earning funds for our school.

The easiest way to let your child shop the Fair independently is by creating a Book Fair eWallet through our school homepage. It’s easy to set up and easy for family and friends to add funds.

With eWallet, you’ll also have the chance to contribute to Share the Fair™—the giving program that supports students at our school who need help buying books. Consider participating so that no child leaves the Fair empty-handed!

Preview the books coming to the Fair by taking a 360° virtual tour via our school’s Book Fair homepage and explore the titles, watch video book trailers, and more.

We can’t wait to see you at the Fair and help every student discover a book they’ll love!

Happy reading!

Partnership in Supporting Your Child's Education

While we are committed to being available for your concerns, drop-in visits can disrupt the instructional school day and pre-scheduled commitments. To ensure we can give each matter the attention it deserves, please make an appointment in advance by calling or visiting the front office.

For classroom-related issues, kindly reach out to your child’s teacher via email or through Talking Points.

For broader schoolwide concerns and TK-5th grade needs, please contact our principal at hady.jimenez@sanjuan.edu and anna.min@sanjuan.edu for Middle School inquiries, our vice principal. We put effort into responding within 48 hours.

Should you have a time-sensitive matter, do not hesitate to call or visit the office.

To be able to address and deescalate situations promptly, please remind your child to report safety incidents when they happen to our supervisors if it's during recess, or to the teacher if it happens in the classroom. If they don't feel it was resolved, they can request go to our support center (room 19) for additional support from our counselors. This helps us investigate, support, and follow the discipline guidelines in a timely manner.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Together, we can continue to support our students' success.

Staffing

Our new resource teacher/case manager Mary Lahr-5th-8th and Jon Robinson TK-5th.

If you know someone that might be interested in being an instructional assistant, have them email me at hady.jimenez@sanjuan.edu.

Spirit Fridays!

On Fridays, students and staff are encouraged to wear blue or a Sierra Oaks shirt to show our Cougar Pride.
