Note from Our Principal
Dear RedHawk Families,
As we finish our first full week of school, I want to recognize all that your students have accomplished! They have navigated their first full week of school wake-ups, engaged in intentional learning around the RedHawk Way, adjusted to two different schedules along with an early-release day, completed i-Ready testing, and started athletics and clubs—to name just a few accomplishments!
As we welcome our students back, we are spending intentional time re-establishing expectations and routines. I want to highlight the behavior matrix that has been shared as a way to build common language and consistent routines between home and school. This weekend, please engage your student in a conversation about these expectations. Ask them: How do you think following these expectations will help you be more successful at school? How does having these expectations help everyone?
As our students learn to navigate these new routines, we also want to reinforce how important it is for students to be in school and engaged in learning each day. We understand that doctor’s appointments and special circumstances come up, but please be mindful that every minute counts when it comes to our students’ learning. Student pick ups near the end of the day may impact bus dismissal and therefore should be arranged early with the office to avoid transportation delays.
A quick Synergy note - as we are learning the system, we are asking for grace and curiosity. I know we are excited to have this new platform but as more time passes we are learning even more that can help us be successful. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
Important Upcoming Event: Back to School Night
Next Tuesday, August 25th from 6:00 pm - 7:40 pm.
For the first time ever, we will be hosting all grade levels together! Staff will be parking offsite, and we anticipate a large crowd. Please plan ahead and carpool if possible.
Both the front and back parking lots will be open to families.
Parking will be very tight, so please arrive with extra time.
Please do not park in the front driveway nearest the building (along the yellow curb), as it is a fire zone.
You may park in the front circle away from the building, where the curb is not painted yellow.
Please remember that Back to School Night is an opportunity to learn about your student’s classes, routines, and expectations. Parent-teacher conferences will be coming soon, so please refrain from asking teachers about your child’s academic progress during Back to School Night. That is a great topic for a separate email or phone call.
What to Expect That Evening
When you arrive, you will find your student’s schedule taped to their locker. So please KNOW your child’s locker number as you arrive. From there, you will follow their schedule each period and visit their classes.
First period: 14 minutes to allow for announcements
Remaining class periods: 7 minutes each
Passing periods: 5 minutes between classes
During Lunch/Tutorial or Tutorial/Lunch, you will attend a presentation from our WMS administrators in the main gym.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out. We look forward to welcoming all of our families “Back to School!”
Parking Lot/Dismissal Update
A BIG THANK YOU to our families who continue to follow our parking lot and arrival/dismissal procedures. I would reiterate that our parking lot cannot support staff and families parking so please follow expectations so we can protect instructional minutes.
For dismissal - a reminder that all students who are getting picked up should be picked up at The Norris Recreation Center. Students who need to be picked up due to medical arrangements (i.e. crutches) should call the office or nurse to arrange a special pick up either after the buses or in the back lot. We need to get buses out by 2:57 p.m. each day and in order to do that - we must keep our parking lot clear.
For your convenience, we are including the link to the arrival & dismissal slides with videos. These were shared out in the newsletter prior to the first day of school. These are also located in your WMS Family Handbook. Please help us get all of our buses dismissed in a timely manner as we share routes with the elementary schools.
Go RedHawks!

Attendance Notifications
Attendance & Synergy ParentVue
Thank you for your ongoing patience as we are all learning this new system together. We really appreciate it!
When questioning an absence or tardy for a single class period, you should contact that classroom teacher directly for clarification.
Listed below are several common reasons for an individual class period entry:
- Student was late to class with or without a pass
- Their class had a sub
- Student not in their PE squad line for attendance
- Student on a field trip
- Student testing in alternative location
- Student meeting with someone in student services
- Many more not listed here
See the WMS Student Absence Process linked at the end of the this section .
Early PickUp and Synergy ParentVue
We have discovered that you can add an Early PickUp in ParentVue. Unfortunately, we are not receiving those notifications, YET. We are all still learning all that Synergy has to offer and hope to have that notification up and running soon. In the meantime, please follow our process for Early Pickup that is outlined in the WMS Student Absence Process graphic below.

8th Grade Chromebook Swap
Our LRC has finished swapping out our 8th Graders chromebooks for a new device. Please see the attached graphic for some important information about their new devices.
Most students turned in their old device along with their charger at the swap yesterday. For those students who didn't have their charger: You must return your original power cord by Friday, Aug. 21 to the LRC. A fee of $20 will be added to Pushcoin if not returned.
Transportation Concerns?
Thank you for your patience as our students are navigating dismissal procedures and our bus processes. It is very much appreciated!
With rare exceptions, the best way to approach any transportation concerns is to directly contact the D303 Transportation Department. The vast majority of transportation issues are handled by this department, rather than by the school.
We know that reaching them by phone can be challenging. Their webpage is full of useful information including a FAQ section. If you are unable to find answers to your questions, you can always complete their "Bus Stop Location Change Request Form."
Please understand that they are working hard to support the transportation needs of over 12,000 students at 18 locations each day. Wredling alone has over 30 daily buses. This is an overwhelming undertaking!

FVTC presents: THE LIGHTNING THIEF
As the half-blood son of a Greek god, Percy Jackson has newly-discovered powers he can’t control, a destiny he doesn’t want, and a mythology textbook’s worth of monsters on his trail. When Zeus”s master lightning bolt is stolen and Percy becomes the prime suspect, he has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. He must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him. Adapted from the best-selling book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan and featuring a thrilling original rock score, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is an action-packed mythical adventure “worthy of the gods” (Time Out New York).
