Omro Equestrian Team Named Grand Champion at NIHA District Competition
The Omro Equestrian Team, made up of both middle and high school students, competed in the NIHA District Competition last weekend and earned the title of Grand Champion in Division A, advancing to the state championship in Madison at the end of October.
This team is made up of an amazing group of talented young ladies and their horses. The riders are given a pattern to memorize and execute with their horse at varying speeds, and the judge ultimately decides who performs it the best, fastest, and most accurately. It is a true test of discipline while controlling an animal that may or may not always cooperate. The team accumulates points based on their individual placings, and the top teams move forward.
Led by senior Makenzi and her horse Lakota, the team showcased their talents across a wide range of events, from speed and ranch riding to trail, showmanship, cart driving, and hunter hack. Riders Josselyn with Embers, Katelyn with Annabelle and Hermione, Lilly with Lady and Onyx, Maeley with two horses, Brielle with Beau and Hermione, and Riley with Ace and Birdie all contributed key points toward the win.
Additionally, our younger riders made a big impact—7th grader Quinn with Chino impressed in timed events and jumping, while 6th graders Kennedy Black with Sugar shined in dressage and showmanship. Claire with Zola, and Isabella with Tator led the way in trail, horsemanship, bareback, and showmanship. The highlight of the weekend was the way the girls supported one another and enjoyed competing as a team. Individually strong and collectively dynamic, they are ready to represent Omro at State.
Special thanks go to coaches Ali Boese and Mikkiya Bottker for their leadership and dedication. Congratulations, Foxes Equestrians—and best of luck at State!
Homecoming Royalty
Congratulations to this year's Homecoming Court! Omro will be well represented by ladies Addison L, Charlee, Lainey, Madeline C, Emelia, Lydia and Madelyn C and gentlemen Deven, Blake, Fox, Tanner, Logan C, Nicholas and Lucas K... our King and Queen will be crowned on Saturday night at the Homecoming Dance! Congratulations to you all!
Ladies' Cross Country Team Places Second at Reedsburg Invite
Congratulations also goes out to Lillian on her Top 20 finish in Portage! The team travels to Laconia on Monday...good luck, runners!
Lady Foxes Volleyball Outmatches the Vikings on the Road
Lady Foxes Varsity Volleyball outmatched Winnebago Lutheran Academy on the road on Tuesday! In an exciting five-set match, Omro overcame the Vikings with a final score of 3-2 (with set scores of 25-17, 17-25, 25-19, 18-25, 15-8). Congratulations, Ladies! You can catch more volleyball action on Saturday as the varsity team heads to Wrightstown High School at 9:00am, and the JV2 team travels to Mayville Elementary, also at 9:00am! Good luck!
Boys Soccer Gets the Shutout
The boy's soccer team displayed a strong defensive effort that kept the Central Wisconsin Christian School from scoring Tuesday night. Omro scored 2-0 while the hometown crowd looked on.
On Thursday, the team hit the road to face Campbellsport, where their combined efforts resulted in an impressive 10-1 win over the Cougars. Great job!
The boys will host their Varsity Invitational on Saturday beginning at 10:00am. Good luck, Omro!
Key Club Hosts Blood Drive
Another successful Red Cross Blood Drive hosted by Key Club! Thank you to all the community members and students who donated. They are helping saving lives and helping us meet our goal of 100+ pints for the Young Minds Save Lives Scholarship which will be awarded to one of our own seniors!
Life Skills on the Farm!
Mrs. Piper's Life Skills students went on a community outing on Thursday, October 2nd during class time to the Ewald Farm in Winneconne. They went to meet their calf, Pepsi, that they have adopted. The kids were really excited about this to get to see her and spend some time getting to know her!
Pickle Autopsy
Anatomy & Physiology
Classes have completed their unit on anatomical terms and recently practiced dissection skills with a "pickle autopsy!" An unfortunate gang battle between the Vlassics and Claussens resulted in several casualties! Student teams dissected their "pickle victim" to determine their cause of death. A & P classes are also in need of brand new boxes of Kleenex (any shape or size) for an upcoming project. Please bring any donation to Mrs. Whitney's room, 1805.
Noize Pollution Performs
Current and former Omro High School students make up the band Noize Pollution which performed at the Waukau Youth Center. They played a mix of covers and original songs, some of which were inspired by their classes at OHS. We are so proud of our talented Foxes. Way to rock!
Shedding Light on the Blood Moon
Physics Fundamentals students, as part of their "Earth in Space" unit, recently investigated the causes of the orange/red color changes we see during sunrise, sunset and the "blood moon" which is also known as a lunar eclipse. Students used powdered milk in water to represent the Earth's atmosphere and a flashlight to represent the sun's rays. During a Lunar Eclipse, when light from the sun enters Earth's atmosphere, it interacts with matter in the atmosphere. Some colors of light are transmitted (i.e. orange and red) while others are reflected, scattered or absorbed (i.e. green, blue, purple) The transmitted orange and red light reflects off the surface of the moon and back to the viewer who sees the red/orange color that we call a "blood moon."
Bumping Up the Lesson in Mrs. Morse's World of Children Class
Students in Mrs. Morse's World of Children class were recently learning about Prenatal Development. They have been researching what happens to the fetus and what the mother is feeling during the nine months of pregnancy. To help students better understand how a mother may be feeling during pregnancy, they had the opportunity to wear the Empathy Belly Simulator. This simulator represents the ninth month of pregnancy and allows the students to feel some of the same symptoms that an expecting mother would feel.
Fox Time With Griffin
Students had the opportunity to participate in a "Fox Time with Griffin" experience recently at Omro High School. Lindsay Loewe, from Collaborative Wellness, leads this event which offers a variety of SEL activities. The students also had some time to interact with Griffin, a Licensed Therapy Dog and K9 Good Citizen through the Fox Valley Humane Association.
If you'd like to share any kudos or gratitude for our high school staff, please use this form to submit your positive comments and help us celebrate their great work!
