🐝 The Hawthorne Hive Weekly Buzz

Greetings Hawthorne Hive Families! 🐝

Thank you for another wonderful week of partnership and support! We truly appreciate all the ways you continue to show up for our school community. Thank you to everyone who joined us for Spirit Night on Monday at Taqueria El Vecino—your presence helped make the event a great success! We are also grateful for your support in allowing students to wear green as we celebrated Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22nd. In addition, thank you for allowing your child(ren) to participate in our first annual Silent Disco! It was a joy seeing our students engaged, excited, and creating lasting memories together. We are excited to celebrate the success of our boys’ and girls’ flag football teams this past Saturday! Both teams brought home wins, demonstrating teamwork, determination, and school pride. A special thank you to our dedicated coaches—Mr. Barnes, Mr. Smith, Ms. Lester, and Ms. Shegog—for their leadership and commitment to our student-athletes. We are so proud of our teams and grateful for the support that makes opportunities like this possible!

We are incredibly proud of our students in grades 3, 4, and 5 for successfully completing the Georgia Milestones Math Assessment this week with focus and determination. Their hard work and perseverance truly shined!

As we look ahead to next week, students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will continue with the GA Milestones ELA Assessment over three consecutive days:

  • Monday, April 27th – ELA Section 1
  • Tuesday, April 28th – ELA Section 2
  • Wednesday, April 29th – ELA Section 3

We kindly ask that you continue to encourage your child to remain calm, confident, and focused during this important time. Ensuring a good night’s rest, a healthy breakfast, and positive encouragement each morning will help set them up for success. To keep students motivated, we will continue providing small daily incentives throughout the testing week.

Square 1 Art Reminder
We are excited to showcase our students’ creativity through Square 1 Art! This special program allows you to turn your child’s artwork into meaningful keepsakes and gifts for family and friends.

Please note that the last day to place your Square 1 Art order is Monday, April 27th. To purchase, simply scan the QR code on the flyer below. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate and preserve your child’s artistic talents!

Donations for the Hornet Hustle are still being accepted! We’ve raised an incredible $25,396, reaching 84% of our $30,000 goal—we are only $4,604 away! We are so close and can reach our goal with your support. With just a little more help, we can cross the finish line. Every dollar truly makes a difference, and any amount is appreciated. There’s still time to give—please use the link below to donate and help us finish strong!

APRIL SEL FOCUS

April’s SEL focus highlights stress awareness and emotional regulation. Students will learn strategies to recognize stress triggers, manage their emotions, and apply coping techniques that support both their mental and physical wellbeing, especially during high-pressure times like testing. While there are no required SEL lessons this month, our school counselors will continue to support students by reinforcing brief strategies that promote calmness, focus, and resilience.

Our Book of the Month, B Is for Breathe: The ABCs of Coping with Fussy and Frustrating Feelings by Dr. Melissa Munroe Boyd, encourages students to practice breathing techniques and healthy ways to express emotions. This resource is especially helpful in supporting students during times when they may feel overwhelmed or stressed.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting the whole child.

Morning announcements begin at 7:45 am

Car riders:: When picking students up, parents should have the Hawthorne ES Car Rider Tag visible in their car. If the Car Rider Tag is not visible, parents are required to park, come into the building and provide Identification. Thank you for your patience as we simply want to keep your students' safe.

The pick-up times for dismissal are below:

Bus riders-2:25:pm; Car riders 2:35 pm (front of building after buses) & walkers (Side door)

Walker Dismissal Protocol Update
The dismissal process for the Walker group is being slightly adjusted to ensure a smoother and more secure experience. Students will continue to dismiss from the side door; however, we will now be implementing a numbered tag system.
Each walker will be assigned a unique number. Parents or guardians must walk to the designated walker door and visibly display their child’s assigned number. This number will correspond to the student’s walker tag, which will be attached to their backpack.
For safety and accountability, students will only be released once the matching number is presented at the door.

Attendance & Dismissal Procedures Update

To ensure accurate attendance records and to maintain a safe and orderly school environment, we are updating our arrival and dismissal procedures:

  • Late Arrival: Students arriving after 7:45 AM must be checked in by a parent/guardian inside the school office.

  • Early Check-Out: If a student needs to leave school early, parents/guardians must come into the building to sign the student out prior to the start of dismissal.

These updates are in place to support accurate attendance documentation. We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to helping us ensure that your students are safe during arrival and dismissal from school. 😊Thank you!
