Superintendent's message
Dear Newport Schools Parents, Families, and Staff:
In the wake of Monday’s historic blizzard, first and foremost, all focus is on safety. Newport roads over most of the City are impacted by snow, and sidewalks in which our walkers use still need to be addressed. It will take time as our City and all of us start to “shovel out” our own properties as well as helping our neighbors. As of this writing, our bus company has informed us that the road conditions are not safe and in some cases impassable. That is why Newport Public Schools will remain closed for the rest of this week, so that all of us can take the time needed to “shovel out” and make the appropriate plans for our families.
During this time, it is important for all of us to be patient and safe. It will take time for the City and our schools to dig out of 30+ inches of snow. Let’s remember to focus on safety and patience as we dig out to resume normal school operations. Our hope is to get a fresh start next week with plowed roads and sidewalks so we all can get back to our school routines.
As we move forward, Newport Public Schools will use all of our communications channels to keep our students, parents, teachers, and staff aware of all updates.
Stay safe, stay warm, and hopefully we’ll be back to our normal school day routines next week.
Colleen Burns Jermain, Ed.D.

NACTC Culinary Students Place 2nd In Statewide ProStart Competition
Imagine having to develop a menu and cook a gourmet meal in just one hour? That’s exactly what our amazing NACTC culinary program students did at the February 10th statewide ProStart competition where they took home the 2nd place award. Great job to our student chefs and Chef/Teachers Michele LaPaglia and Matthew Reilly! Click here to watch video and photo highlights from the event. 👨🍳👩🍳
Rogers JROTC Drill Team Sweeps Competition
A big congrats to the Rogers High School JROTC Drill Team, who recently swept all six categories at the Drill Competition that took place at Rogers High School in December. The Rogers Drill Team finished first out of four schools in all six team events. In addition, congrats also goes to Keirian Santiago for finishing first and Anezeli Cruz for finishing in third out of 200 cadets in the only individual competition of the event. Amazing job Rogers JROTC!🎖️
ThinkFast Interactive Traffic Safety At Thompson
Before winter break, Thompson students participated in a fun and interactive ThinkFast game show style event focused on traffic safety and team building. Students had a blast!
