a message from Ms Parker...
A big thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views in our annual parent survey. As always, your feedback is incredibly valuable to us as we continue to shape and improve our school. We deeply appreciate your ongoing support and commitment to our school community. Your input plays a key role in helping us create the best possible environment for our children to thrive.
Over the past few months, I have been working with the consortium to identify a new catering partner through a tender process. I will update you on the outcome once it has been concluded.
I am committed to enabling an improved school meal service, to ensure our children have access to nutritious, balanced meals that support their health and academic performance. Our goal is to select a partner who aligns with our values of sustainability, quality, and affordability. I believe this new partnership will not only enhance the dining experience but also contribute to a positive school environment for everyone.
Thank you for your continued patience and support as we move forward with this important initiative.
Following the personal development of Mrs. Da Silva as Class Teacher this year, we have been refining our succession strategy to ensure the successful return of Forest School for all children. Moving forward, Mr. Dos Santos and Ms. Davy will take the lead in delivering the program across the school, with Mrs. Da Silva providing overall oversight. To ensure the program’s success, we are currently organising a team of dedicated volunteers to assist with the preparation of our Forest School space. Our aim is to begin delivering sessions in the Summer Term, providing children a hands-on, nature-based learning experience that fosters both personal and academic growth.
You should have received a letter regarding International Women’s Day, which will be observed on Friday, March 7th. Each year, we celebrate the significant role women play in our lives and society, while also highlighting the diverse opportunities available in various fields, especially those traditionally underrepresented. We greatly value the contributions of women in our community and invite you to share your experiences with our children. You can sign up to speak with a class for just 15 minutes, or, if preferred, share a short video message. Please use the link below to sign up and get involved.
A huge thank you to the FAB committee for all your hard work in organising the Quiz Night on Thursday, 6th February. We truly appreciate the time and effort you’ve dedicated to supporting our fundraising initiatives. Your thoughtful planning, marketing, and attention to detail have been instrumental in generating strong support for both our ongoing and new events this year.
We are incredibly grateful for all that you do to make a difference in our school community.
Please keep an eye out for what is coming up in the FAB section below.
We would like to take a moment to Mrs Flores and Mrs Lodge all the best as they begin their maternity leave. We are excited for this new chapter in their lives and are grateful for the incredible contributions they have made to our school community. Their hard work, and commitment to their classes have made a lasting impact, and they will be greatly missed during their time away. We look forward to welcoming them back and wish them both health and happiness as they embrace this special time with their growing families.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all our teachers and staff for your dedication and hard work this half term. Your commitment to supporting our students, fostering a positive learning environment, and going above and beyond in everything you do has not gone unnoticed. We truly appreciate the energy, care, and passion you bring to your roles every day. Your efforts make a lasting impact on our school community, and we are grateful for all that you do to ensure our children flourish.
Enjoy a well-deserved break!
Thank you everyone for your support over the past term.
I wish you all a peaceful break with your loved ones.
Keep safe and I will see you on the gate at 9am on Monday 24th March.

Curriculum Spotlight
This month we shine a light on vocabulary teaching and learning
This term, we have examined how we teach new vocabulary across our Federation and used research to review our teaching strategies and improve our approach.
Our schools explicitly teach vocabulary to secure clarity in word meaning, usage and context. This targeted approach fosters a structured learning environment where children gain confidence in applying new vocabulary effectively. Increasing their oracy, comprehension and writing skills.
We have used research to define our structure for teaching tiered words and words from the academic word list.
Tier 1- Basic, familiar, commonly used words
Tier 2- Often have multiple meanings, academic words
Tier 3- Subject-specific
Our teaching structure:
Monday - Introduce the word (repeat- phonics/syllables child-friendly definition and image)
Tuesday - Morphology/orthography /word class category
Wednesday - Synonyms and Antonyms
Thursday - Plural, spelling patterns and Etymology
Friday - Revision lesson and previous word multiple choice question
At home, you can use this structure to target your questions about the word of the week. For example, on Tuesdays, you can ask, 'What suffix can we add to the word, and how does it change the meaning?'
What Geography vocabulary is your child/ren learning?
Early Years-
Year 1- Population
Year 2- Compass
Year 3- cartographer
Year 4- observatory
Year 5- landscape
Year 6-classification
Please rienforce the learning by asking your child/ren to use this word in sentence.
Homework
Please help your child with spelling by looking at each word's spelling rules, sounds and patterns. Practising spelling daily (or as much as possible) will help your children to learn and remember each word. In KS1, children must choose five spelling words to put into sentences.
In KS2, children must write a sentence for each word using neat, joined handwriting.
This will allow the children to understand the meaning of each word, put the word into context, and practice their handwriting.
All spelling books must be given to the Class Teacher every Wednesday. This will ensure that your teacher has enough time to get the new spellings stuck in. Children will be doing a weekly spelling test in the back of their homework books so you can see how well they are doing.
Lost Property
For a smoother school experience, please remember to label all your child's belongings. This includes clothing, coats, bikes, and scooters. A clear label with the pupil's name and class greatly increases the chances of lost items being returned. This simple act also supports our year 6 'Lost Property Monitors' in their efforts to reunite found items with their owners.
School Lunch
Pancake Day
On Tuesday 4th March ISS are providing a special menu for pancake day.
If your child/ren would like the option of a pancake as part of their meal, they must be booked in for a school lunch that day.
FAB Update
1 hour per term!
We always need more help and support. A donation of one hour per term (that’s only three hours per year) of your time is all we ask, whether it be as a class rep, planning/hosting an event, or standing on a stall. Some parents very generously agreed to host an event like our amazing wreath-making workshop or the gathering of donations for our incredible raffles. Every parent is a member of FAB. I ask that everyone get involved.
Let's raise money together!
Parentkind – the charity that supports school PTAs - have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative – all you have to do is:
1. Download the Asda Rewards app
2. Choose Bonneville as your primary school under Cash pots.
FAB will receive £1 for every new sign-up before 30 November. No purchase required.
Additional funds also raised if you scan in store or shop online at Asda.com, between 2nd September and 30th November 2024. Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to our Primary school.
Optional - The supermarket has joined forces with Joe Wicks to support the initiative – look out for the TV advert, radio ads and social media coverage
Optional - Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to schools to spend on the things they need the most.

Raising a Concern
It is important to us that any concerns or questions you may have are dealt with as efficiently as possible. The structure we have in place is designed to do just that.
The structure
1) Your first port of call is -Your child’s class teacher
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
2) You may contact the leader of your child’s phase (see below)
This includes issues regarding communication and organisation
(email via the admin team to request a meeting)
Should you be dissatisfied with the handling or outcome...
3) You may raise your concerns with Ms Parker
(email via the admin team to request a meeting outlining the nature for the purpose of the meeting)
Leaders are required to share items (as appropriate) with Ms Parker on a weekly basis, even if the matter is being handled by them.
We request that you do not field your concerns to FAB but instead work directly with the school staff as outlined above.
