"Love What You Do"
To do great work, we’re told we must "love what we do," but this often creates a perfectionist trap. In reality, passion isn't a constant state of enthusiasm; it’s a long-term commitment that survives the inevitable "Mondays" when the work feels like a grind. Even in a dream career, greatness is usually found in the 80% of mundane tasks that make the 20% of breakthrough moments possible. If we view love for our work as a steady underlying current rather than a daily emotional high, we gain the resilience to stay the course when the initial spark fades.

Message for the Week:
Message from Mr. Tejkl
Great Work = Love What You Do...
Good morning!
Happy Weekend and I hope you have had a great one! I have had the privilege of being able to watch many of our young students participate in our Double Dog Meet and as well as our Youth Basketball League. It makes me smile and proud of all the work that goes into these kids and the opportunities that are provided for them. From practices, to time, to money to make equipment available, and many other things but it takes many moving parts to make it possible. Why do they/we or others do this? It is because of love.
We’re often told that "the only way to do great work is to love what you do," but we rarely talk about what that love actually looks like in the hallways of SRC. It isn’t a constant state of excitement or a daily emotional high; rather, it’s a quiet, steady commitment that survives the "Mondays" when the work feels like a grind. For our staff, that love is found in the patience required when a lesson is difficult; for our students, it’s the discipline to keep practicing a skill until it clicks; and for our patrons, it’s the persistence to show up for your goals even when progress feels slow.
True passion isn't a lightning bolt that strikes us—it’s something we build together through resilience and care. At SRC, "great work" happens in the messy middle, where the boring tasks of learning and teaching transform into mastery. By moving past the myth that work must be easy to be fulfilling, we create a space where every effort, no matter how small, contributes to something extraordinary. When we embrace the struggle as part of the craft, we don't just find our passion—we prove it.
Ultimately, this commitment is what transforms SRC from a building into a heartbeat. When we choose to lead with heart—especially when we’re tired or the path ahead seems steep—we create a ripple effect that extends far beyond these walls. It’s in those unscripted moments, like a staff members' encouraging nod or a student’s hard-won breakthrough, that we see the true value of our collective work. We aren't just checking boxes or completing tasks; we are building a legacy of care and a home for one another’s dreams. That is the kind of great work that lasts, fueled by a love that doesn't just work for the communities, but belongs to it.
Have a great rest of your week!
Quote of the week to reflect on:
