CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
Dear Coyote Families,
We’ve had another wonderful week at Canyon View Elementary! On Monday, our campus was transformed into a 19th-century frontier camp as the Julian Gold Mining Company visited our Fourth Graders. Students dove into pioneer life, from mining for gold and scrubbing laundry on washboards to testing their aim with cowboy boot and hat tosses. The excitement continued on Monday as our Fifth Graders kicked off their Line-Dancing PE unit, guided by wonderful local senior volunteers in the MPR. Thursday was another fantastic PUSD VAPA Day, where students explored visual art concepts like patterns and tessellations. To top it all off, our Kindergarteners dazzled their families with a beautiful Choral Music Performance led by Mrs. Serrano.
Important Update: Jog-A-Thon Rescheduled
As you know, we postponed our Jog-A-Thon due to this week’s record-breaking heat wave. Our new date is Wednesday, April 1st. This gives us a little more time to reach our goals! As our Foundation’s biggest fundraiser, we truly depend on your support to keep our most cherished programs running. Please consider donating to support the Foundation Jog-A-Thon. Your pledges directly fund:
Art with Mrs. Dawson
Choral Music with Mrs. Serrano
Computer Science with Mrs. Dawson
Science Lab with Mrs. Cortez
PE with Coach Chase
Impact with Mrs. Kiehl
...and so much more!
Thank you for your ongoing support of our students and staff.
Let’s make it a great week!
Warmly,
Erica Edmonston

Continuing Student Registration Window: March 2 - March 31, 2026
This enrollment window is for students currently enrolled in Poway Unified schools in grades TK-11. A digital registration packet must be completed for ALL currently enrolled students, whether your child(ren) are returning or leaving the district next school year.
If your family is not returning to PUSD for the 2026-2027 school year, please complete the online packet for your child(ren) to let us know. We’ve simplified the process this year: once you select the "No, we are not planning to return next year" option, the form will automatically skip to the end for a quick submission. It only takes a moment and greatly helps us with our planning for the upcoming school year.
Completing the Continuing Student Registration process will allow for proper placement of your child(ren) for the 2026-2027 school year as well as appropriate release procedures for those who will not be returning. For full instructions on this process, visit the Continuing Registration webpage.

KNOWLEDGE & NETWORK, A SPECIAL EDUCATION PARENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM
The Special Education Parent Ambassadors will host a Knowledge & Network presentation titled “Turning Challenges into Strengths: A Journey with a Learning Disability” on Tuesday, March 24, from 6:30–8:00 p.m. Families may attend in person at the District Office Community Room (15250 Avenue of Science, San Diego, CA 92128) or via Zoom.
During this session, a guest speaker will share his personal journey growing up with a learning disability, reflecting on the challenges he faced, how he learned to overcome them, and how he ultimately discovered his own path to success. His story offers a relatable and inspiring perspective for both parents and individuals with disabilities, emphasizing resilience, self-acceptance, and hope.
The presentation aims to provide encouragement and insight for families navigating learning differences and disabilities, highlighting how challenges can become strengths with the right support, mindset, and determination. Families attending in person will receive a complimentary copy of the speaker’s book while supplies last.
Please RSVP here. See this flyer to learn more about the guest speaker.

Quick Registration: Includes the CARES Code of Conduct and liability waiver.
Action Required: Complete one form per student to get them back on the track!
We Need Your Help! 🤝 Run Club is 100% volunteer-led. To open the track each morning, we need at least two Level 2 cleared volunteers. If you have 20 minutes to spare before the bell, please consider signing up via the registration link above. No long-term commitment required—every lap counts!
Garden Volunteers Needed
This is a fun, flexible way to get involved. Volunteers will:

- The days and times are flexible and will be coordinated individually with you and the teachers.
- All volunteers must be cleared through the school/district system. We'd love to have Level 2 volunteers who are cleared to work independently with groups, but we can happily accommodate Level 1 volunteers as well!

Catching the Moon: The Story of a Young Girl’s Baseball Dream, written by Crystal Hubbard & illustrated by Randy DuBurke
Springtime brings longer days, warmer weather and the promise of another season of baseball and softball. For readers and fans of all ages, it’s a great time to share stories of the love of the game! Catching the Moon (based on the life of Toni Stone) tells the true story of the first woman to play professional baseball. Marcenia Lyle loved baseball. Those 4 words introduce us to a young girl who thought there wasn’t anything better than baseball. In 1930 St. Louis, Marcenia played baseball with all the boys at school and earned their respect as an athlete. But at that time, not everyone believed that girls should be allowed a place on the field. Despite the obstacles, Marcenia commits herself to proving that she can play and making her baseball dreams come true.
Interested in Visiting or Volunteering at Canyon View?
We love our volunteers! To get started, complete the Level 1 Volunteer Application for Canyon View Elementary at bit.ly/CVESVolunteer or click here (includes TB clearance and Megan’s Law check).
Some roles—like coaching, robotics, or working with students unsupervised—require Level 2 clearance. To obtain or renew Level 2 status, complete the Level 1 steps first, then request a Level 2 form from our office and complete fingerprinting at the PUSD District Office.
If you are visiting campus for a short time—such as attending an assembly, performance, class party or meeting—you do not need to register as a volunteer; simply check in at the front office as a visitor. Classroom visitors need to be scheduled in advance with both the office and the classroom teacher.
