Husky Howler
Hopper Middle School

May 2026 (Edition 1 of 2)
Message from our Principal, Dr. Hayes...
Dear Hopper Families,
As we approach the final 17 days of the school year, consistent attendance is more important than ever. Every school day counts, as students are still completing important tests, projects, and daily assignments that directly impact their grades for this grading period. Missing school can make it increasingly difficult for students to stay on track and catch up academically, so we encourage all of our Huskies to attend school each and every day.
Student safety remains our highest priority. All students are required to wear their school-issued ID badge on a lanyard around their neck while on campus or have a temporary badge if needed. This practice helps us maintain a safe and secure environment by ensuring that everyone on campus belongs here. If your child no longer has the lanyard, sleeve, or permanent ID and you wish to purchase a new set for $5, please contact us by emailing hopper@cfisd.net or call 281-463-5353.
Additionally, we have seen an increase in students choosing to walk or bike home from school. Unfortunately, there has also been a rise in parent-reported incidents in the surrounding area during these times. To help keep students safe, we strongly encourage families to have their children utilize district bus transportation whenever possible. All students are able to ride the bus with their school ID badge, and this remains one of the safest transportation options available.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support in helping us finish the school year strong, safe, and successful.
Sincerely,
Dr. Felicia Hayes, Principal
Lost Library Books
If your child has lost a library book, there is a fee for the lost book. Please scan the QR code or click on the picture below to pay this fee online. Then, send the receipt to hopperlibrary@cfisd.net so that we may clear this fine. Should you have any questions, please email Ms. Jessica Taylor, our librarian, at hopperlibrary@cfisd.net.
Wear Green on May 15th
May is mental health month! Encourage your child to join us in wearing green on May 15th to bring awareness and show their Hopper camaraderie.
After-school Tutorials and Activities Coming to a Close
Please note that the last day for after-school tutorials will be Thursday, May 21st and this will also be our last day of late bus transportation. If your child needs to remain after school for tutorials or a fine arts program from now until May 21st, we ask that you contact their teacher or music director directly and in advance to make the necessary arrangements. During the final week of school, May 26th–28th, there will be no scheduled after-school activities. Thank you for your cooperation as we wrap up the school year.
Excessive Absences and Attendance Recovery
Texas law requires students to attend at least 90% of school days to receive credit. Students with excessive absences have met with their Assistant Principal and have been assigned work in a Schoology course to recover attendance hours.
If this pertains to your child, please ensure that they complete this work outside of school hours to stay on track. Failure to complete the required hours may result in loss of credit and could require summer school.
Contact your child’s Assistant Principal with any questions. Below is a list of grade level APs and their contact information:
6th grade: Ms. Lindsay Crow (lindsay.crow@cfisd.net)
7th grade: Ms. April Taylor (april.taylor@cfisd.net)
8th grade: Dr. Mark Simmons (mark.simmons@cfisd.net)
Thank you for your support!
Attendance Matters!
When you miss school, you miss out—not only on academic enrichment, but on fine arts and extracurricular opportunities, and camaraderie with fellow students.
Chronic absenteeism is classified as missing 10% of the school year, as few as two days a month! Ten percent of the fall semester is about 8 days. If a student misses two or more days a month, they are less likely to read on grade level, be successful in middle school, and be promoted to the next grade level.
Students who have missed more than 10% will not receive credit due to their excessive absences if the time has not been made up outside of academic hours. Please check your child's attendance on Home Access Center.
8th Grade End of Year Celebration - May 21st
Dear 8th Grade Families,
The end of the year celebration is almost here, and we need donations to ensure this event is spectacular for our students! They have worked hard all year and now is the time to celebrate them!
Please visit the Signup Genius website to see the items needed and/or to sign up to volunteer at the event if you can! All donations should be dropped off at the front office beginning Monday, May 4th.
If you would prefer to donate to the 8th grade planning committee directly, please reach out to Hopper Middle School for contact information. Below is the link to the Signup Genius: https://tinyurl.com/bdz29xef
Our last planning meeting for this event is on Tuesday, May 12th at 6pm in Hopper's LGI. We definitely need additional helpers, so everyone is welcome. Please enter through the front door #25.
Thank you for supporting our Huskies! Together, we can make this a fun, meaningful send-off for our Huskies as they head into their next chapter!
Chromebooks are Needed Everyday at Hopper
We kindly ask that you partner with us in making sure that your child's computer is fully charged and in their backpack each day. Students use laptops each day to extend their learning, to take tests, complete labs and assignments, and as a calculator aid in 8th grade math, etc. If your child's laptop is not working, please contact Ms. Karen Nixon, our Academic Achievement Specialist by emailing her at karen.nixon@cfisd.net or by calling 281-463-5353. She can work with your child in putting in an LTE ticket for our computer technician to look at.

Personal Communication Devices
As you know, Texas has a new law, House Bill 1481, that prohibits students from using personal communication devices (i.e. cell phones, tablets, head phones, and smartwatches) on school property during school hours. We are proud to say that our Huskies are doing a fabulous job of keeping them stored in their backpacks and "away for the day." Thank you for partnering with us to keep reinforcing this positive behavior.
Class of 2026 Senior Clap Out
On Tuesday, May 26th our Huskies will line the hallways and clap for the Class of 2026 seniors who once attended Hopper as they walk through our halls one last time. If you know any seniors that went to Hopper for middle school, feel free to share this information with them.
Cashless Campus
Hopper is a cashless campus. This means that ALL class fees, fees for temporary badges, PE/Athletics uniforms, and other payments must be all be completed on-line through School Cash. If you should need help with your child's school cash account, please contact Ms. Gibson our finance secretary by emailing her at teresa.gibson@cfisd.net, or by calling 281-463-5353.
Tipline - See Something, Say Something!
