East High School Newsletter
September 30, 2026

Principals Message
Dear East Community,
It’s hard to believe that we are already at the end of the first month of school. We have had a great first few weeks of school and we all look forward to a busy month of October. We have just a few reminders and recognitions for this edition of the newsletter.
Yesterday, our Student Council hosted our annual care walk. Every year, they ask participants to donate to a charity and this year, they decided to donate any funds raised to Roswell Park Cancer Institute. I am personally very thankful and extremely humbled that they chose Roswell this year. A HUGE thank you to all of our students and staff that came out to support this worthy cause.
Homecoming will take place the week of October 5th. Student Council has a fun week planned for our school and as always we have Flag Football/Taste of East being held on October 8th, the Football game on October 9th and the dance on October 10th. We hope to see all of our students and families at these fun events.
Our annual open House is tomorrow evening (10/1/26). Our first period class begins at 6pm and we look forward to greeting all of our parents/guardians for what should be a very informative evening.
Just a reminder that on Friday, October 2nd, we will conduct the annual early release drill. Students will be released from school 15 minutes early.
I would like to congratulate four of our students for being named semi-finalists for the National Merit Scholarship. Snigdha Chakravarti, Sara Ismail, Sophia Liu and Muling Lu are among only 16,000 semi-finalists nationwide. These students will continue to compete for 6,930 National Merit Scholarships totaling nearly $26 million dollars in the Spring.
I would also like to congratulate the following East HS students for being accepted to the NYSSMA Conference All-State music groups. Shumi Liu, Sophia Liu, Muling Lu, Jessica Park, Emma Zu, Gryson Bae (Alternate), Harold Hinklin (Alternate) and Samar Waddanakeri (Alternate).
Lastly, I would like to congratulate our school Librarian, Mrs. Michelle Weber, for receiving the Excellence in Library Service Award at the Western New York Library Resources Council (WNYLRC)’s 60th Annual Meeting of the Membership, held at the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens this past week. Mrs. Weber goes above and beyond for our students every day. She offers a warm and inviting atmosphere where all students feel accepted. Congratulations Mrs. Weber!
As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns and we hope to see you at some of our homecoming activities!
Sincerely,
Jason T. Swenson
Principal
