New program brings local foods to students
Students have something new to try on Thursdays this school year. The Nutrition Services department launched MN Thursdays, a new Farm to School initiative featuring foods grown and produced locally. Each Thursday, students have the opportunity to try a different Minnesota food.
The first MN Thursday featured Sweet Tango apples from Orchards of Breezy Hill and locally grown green beans from Mom’s Organic Farm. Throughout the fall, students can look forward to Jonny Pops, pears, meatballs, delicata squash and more.
Along with bringing more locally sourced foods into school cafeterias, MN Thursdays give students a chance to learn where their food comes from, discover foods grown and produced close to home and try something new.
