Literacy Literacy

Students are responsible for making up their missed work. Typically the only homework for Literacy will be Reading Logs, unless students are not finishing their work in class.

Comprehension is an important skill. Here are some ideas you can do at home to help improve your child's comprehension.

  1. Many children’s books have been adapted into movies. Choose one of these books and read it with your child. Then, watch the movie version of the book together. After the movie is over, discuss the similarities and differences between the movie and the book. Ask your child which version they preferred and why
  2. Discuss the books with your child once you’re done reading. Ask your child to compare and contrast the books to check their comprehension and keep them engaged.
  3. Practice is the key to improving reading comprehension so encourage your children to practice as much as possible. Don’t limit your children to books, either. Encourage them to read anything they may find interesting, which may include comic books, newspapers, and magazines.

CKLA is designed to help students build language arts skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing, as well as rich knowledge and vocabulary.

Each unit is comprised of:

  • Lessons: including Reading, Writing, Grammar, Morphology, and Spelling activities.
  • Unit Assessment: evaluating students’ reading comprehension, understanding and retention of academic and domain specific vocabulary words, and the grammar and morphology skills targeted in the unit. A writing prompt is included, as is an optional fluency evaluation.
  • Pausing Points: opportunities to review, reinforce, or extend the content and skills taught.

Math Math

Students will not have math homework, unless they do not complete their work in class.

Below are a few suggested things for students to work on at home to improve their math skills.

  • Multiplication facts
  • iReady (login instructions below)
  • An at home packet that students can work on for extra practice on 5th grade math concepts (linked below)

i-Ready

I-Ready Login (Math)

This program allows students to practice, learn, and assess the math skills they are studying in the classroom. It helps me, as a teacher, identify and fill holes as students learn. We encourage parents to support using this program. Our goal is three lessons per week. Some of this will be done in the classroom.

If you are wondering how to log in to i-Ready, please use the attached photo. If you need clarification on your child's SSID, you can find this 7-digit number on Aspire.

(Please only help your student a little in this program because I do not have an accurate picture of what your student knows and what they still need help with.) We would love to see you help your student in math with other tools like talking about math positively, practicing addition and multiplication facts, real-world math problems, reading about math and mathematicians, reviewing homework/classwork, extra practice books, and real-world math problems.
