Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
It certainly was a great week to welcome back our high school students. We went into the winter break with heavy winter coats and came back wearing hoodies and getting perhaps a bit too early taste of spring! While we’ve certainly enjoyed this reprieve from the cold, I’ve been reminding students that this is an early January anomaly and to not get too comfortable. After all, this is Ohio!
We held class meetings on Wednesday to commend our students on a successful first semester and to give a few reminders about our school-wide expectations. The high school staff works hard to reiterate to our students how important it is to be respectful, be responsible and to be kind. In fact, Mr. Buis often tells our students that everyone should treat each other with kindness because we never know what they might be going through. Please help us help your teen by reinforcing this message.
I want to also take a moment to ask you to preview the Upcoming Important Dates section below. February is a busy month for BHS as we will be launching our scheduling process for the 2026-2027 school year! I know it’s difficult to believe, but the second semester in high school is busy with wrapping up a current year while launching a new one! Take particular note of February 12, 2026. We will be holding a parent scheduling meeting and scheduling fair from 5:00-6:30. This is a very important, informative meeting that will encompass “all things” high school programs. You will learn about Advanced Placement, College Credit Plus, and all of the robust high school programs that Batavia High School has to offer. You won’t want to miss this one, and must attend on February 12, 2026 if your student plans to take a College Credit Plus course during the 2026-2027 school year.
Thank you for helping us get your kids back into the swing of a routine, and enjoy your weekend.
In service to our Bulldogs.

We also reviewed our daily expectations and celebrated a successful first semester! Our students have done a phenomenal job building a positive school culture this year!

Hello, Families,
I hope everyone had a nice winter break!
It’s great to see everyone back for the second semester. The student drivers are doing a great job driving and being safe on school property. Please remind them to see me if there are parking issues or concerns that may arise.
The second semester parking fee is $20 dollars and can be paid through PaySchools or by check made out to “Batavia Local Schools.”
Have a great weekend.
Joe Moorehead, Dean of Students

The FAFSA Application is Open!!!!
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students entering or attending college for the 2026-27 academic year is up and running! Any student that is thinking about attending any type of education/training after high school should complete the FAFSA - technical school, trade school, community college, public university, or private university. The FAFSA is what determines your eligibility for student loans, grants, work-study, and scholarships - thus, it is VERY important that you complete and submit it. Keep in mind, all students are eligible for student loans! We will continue to share information and helpful resources with you and your family as we receive it!
The Ohio Department of Higher Education would like to share that the 2026-27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available for all families to complete. Families who want to start filling out the FAFSA now can start the process at studentaid.gov.
For additional assistance with FAFSA completion, please visit itsforyou.org, and look under the “Looking for FAFSA Help?” section for more information
