Dear HMS Families,

It was an exciting first week of December. Our 8th-grade choir performed at the new Senior Center and our band went to see the Morton West band concert. We also had Morton West visit our 8th graders for them to learn more about what to expect in High School.

This upcoming week, we will start NWEA MAP Testing. We are excited to see the progress our students have made throughout the school year. We will begin testing on Tuesday, so please make sure your student has a charged iPad and a good night's sleep every day.

In addition, we will be hosting our Winter Book Fair. Feel free to use this website to set up your e-wallet or to purchase items online. We are also looking for family volunteers, so if you would like to sign up to support the book fair, please do so here.

We hope you are able to join us for the Winter Concert featuring our band choir on Thursday, December 11th, at 6:30 PM here at Heritage.

Just a quick reminder that students should not be bringing any glass bottles to school. It is quite a safety concern if they break.

Our attendance incentive is in full swing, and we are starting to get the Holiday Extravaganza Store organized. If you would like to help out at the store, please sign up here. We are also looking for gift wrap donations, including but not limited to: gift bags, tissue paper, wrapping paper, tape, and gift tags.

Book Fair

Parking

For the safety and accessibility of our school community, please do not park or stop in the fire lane or in designated handicap parking spaces. These areas must remain clear at all times to ensure emergency access and to support those who require accessible parking. Thank you for your cooperation.

Attendance Communication

Beginning Sunday, December 7th, all parents and guardians will receive a weekly email summarizing their student’s attendance for the school year. This update will include the number of days present, absent, and tardy. Our goal is to provide you with timely and transparent information so that together we can encourage strong attendance habits and promptly address any concerns that may arise.

We are sharing this information to partner with families, asking for a commitment to make sure your child attends school every day possible this year. The evidence is clear: students with strong attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement and strong student academic growth. This is true for every grade and every group of students.

Regular attendance is key to student achievement, and we believe that consistent communication will help us work as a team to ensure every student is present, engaged, and prepared to learn. If you have questions about the weekly attendance updates or notice information that needs clarification, please feel free to contact your school office.

Yearbooks - On Sale Now!

HMS 25/26 yearbooks are officially available! If you are interested in purchasing one, use this link. Please make sure to save your receipt and share with your student that you have purchased a yearbook for them. They will be delivered to the school in May to be distributed to your student before leaving for the year. Digital Agreement

Our school is excited to provide each student with an iPad to support learning both in and out of the classroom. In order to ensure that devices are used responsibly and remain in good condition, we ask families and students to review the Digital Agreement by filling out this Google Form.

PBIS Rewards

We utilize an app called PBIS Rewards where students earn points throughout the school year for being Responsible, Respectful and Safe. We have a PBIS store that we open for students to purchase fun items with their points. We also do raffles, field trips and a winter extravaganza that students can utilize their points throughout the year. We encourage students to use their points by the end of the year as they do not roll over!

StopIt

This week, students will download STOPit to their iPads. This is an online application that Heritage students have access to. This application allows students to anonymously report incidents of bullying, misconduct or general concerns. All reports go to the support service team and administration, which allows us to act quickly and in real time to any concerns or incidents.

Breakfast & Lunch

Students at Heritage receive free breakfast and lunch each day if they choose to participate, or they may bring their own lunch from home. As a healthy school, we ask that students do not bring pop, energy drinks, or large bags of snacks.

Breakfast will be served each morning before students head to their Period 1 class. Lunch will take place at the scheduled time according to the bell schedule, and students will also have the option to participate in recess during their lunchtime.
