Great First Week, Wildcats!
Dear BES Families,
We made it! We are tired after a full week of school, but we made it and we are ready for another awesome week! Please look over our information below. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!
Enrollment permissions - I will be going through these to ensure we have all the permissions approved. Often it can be confusing and parents will mark they do not want their child in the yearbook or pictures taken in the classroom, etc. We love sharing moments with you, but also want to respect your wishes.
**If your child is wanting to eat breakfast, the earlier you can drop off - the better! Our first bell rings at 7:55am and we are getting on our way to class! You can drop off anytime after 7:30am and if our breakfast eaters can get there no later than 7:40, then they have plenty of time to get through the line and eat at a reasonable pace! If they get there after 7:45, it is likely they will be late to class as we don't like to rush them when eating. Please give your children a great start to their day by being on time or early!!
GLOW BASH: This is our big fundraiser of the year for the school. The money is used for all things fun! If we do cupcakes on KS Day, Chiefs Super Bowl party, or when we go on field trips, it is all paid from our Glow Bash donations. We ask students collect donations from friends and family. Those donations can be turned in by September 7th. Our event is for the whole family! We will gather at the stadium at 7pm on Saturday, September 7th. The music will be going and students can get a piece of glow accessory for each lap around the track they do. They do not have to walk the track all night though...they can play yard games throughout the stadium, play on the field, dance, visit the food trucks, get more glow gear at the glow store, and just hang with friends! It's really a fun night and I hope you can join us, and bring friends. It's a free event and even if your child does not have any donations to bring, we want you to still come to the Glow Bash!
Have a great week,
Cindy Apple, Principal
Pedestrian Crosswalk at 68 Highway and Aquatic Drive
As you have probably seen, there is a new pedestrian crosswalk and beacon being installed at 68 Highway and Aquatic Drive. It will be a similar beacon and crosswalk that is in place on South Metcalf, by Ron Weers Park. There have been some installation delays so it will not be installed when school begins. We will have a school staff member out at the crosswalk and the city is working on some temporary signage. The hope is to have the crosswalk fully functional by the end of August.
We urge extreme caution at this crosswalk until it is fully functional.

Attendance and School Calendars
Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.
Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!
If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.
GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!
