11th Grade Newsletter
October 2026
Happy October! It’s hard to believe we are already moving into the second month of the school year. Our 11th grade Dragons are continuing to grow as students, leaders, and young adults while preparing for the opportunities that await them after high school.
As we move through the fall, this is an important time for students to stay focused on their academics, attendance, and personal goals. Junior year is an opportunity to begin thinking more intentionally about life after high school, whether that includes college, a career, the military, or another pathway.
Families should also be on the lookout for upcoming SAT dates and information. The SAT is an important part of the college planning process for many students, and now is a great time to become familiar with testing dates, registration deadlines, and available preparation resources. We encourage students to take advantage of opportunities at school to prepare and ask questions along the way.
We also encourage our juniors to stay involved in the Dragon community through clubs, athletics, activities, and leadership opportunities. These experiences help students build connections, develop their strengths, and make the most of their high school experience.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are excited to see our 11th grade Dragons continue to grow, lead, and prepare for their next chapter!

Students are diving head first into the Constitution! After an excellent role play and simulation of the Constitutional Convention, students are now engaging in the structure of the document and how the government is divided through the three branches to balance power.

Studio Art
Students in Studio Art are wrapping up their summative drawing on one-point perspective. Throughout this unit, students learned how artists create the illusion of depth and space by making objects appear to get smaller as they move toward a single vanishing point. We practiced this skill through lots of step-by-step drawings, giving students plenty of opportunities to build their confidence. For their final summative, students got to put their own creativity into action.

Theory of Knowledge I
We have wrapped up our exploration of the human brain and how memories and sensory info are processed in the brain. Through October, we will be learning about how values and culture act as “filters” on what we know and trust as “truth.”

DP Visual Arts Year 1
In DP Visual Arts, students are learning how to create art using a wide variety of techniques, tools, and materials. So far this year, students have explored collage, collagraph and multiple monoprinting techniques.
The first few months of DP Visual Arts are all about exploration and building a toolbox of possibilities. Students will eventually need to develop their own artistic direction and create a personal plan for their artwork, so these mini-workshops give them the opportunity to try lots of different techniques and discover what interests them.

World Theatre B
Theatre is nearing the end of our “soft skills” development, and we’re almost done with our first major project of a flower box! Students have been learning to measure, saw, drill, hammer, paint, and soon will plant their tulip bulbs in their finished product! Then we’ll move into our focus study on “The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical” and begin making/building in prep for the upcoming show!
