Just a reminder to families who use the Boys & Girls Club, Friday, June 13, is the last day the Club will be open for this school year. Please make sure that your child understands their dismissal plans for June 16, 17, and 18. Caregivers should send a note to school with the change in dismissal plan.

Last Day for Preschool and Kindergarten this Week Last Day for Preschool and Kindergarten this Week

We are so proud of our Preschool and Kindergarten students for all of their hard work this year! They have all grown in so many ways and we truly appreciate your partnership. Before we said goodbye, we asked our Kindergartners to do three things this summer to help them get ready for First Grade, and we hope you can help.

1. Stay curious! We asked our students to keep their eyes open for interesting things, ask questions, and be open to new adventures with their families and friends. There are many free activities in the area for families to take part in. The Maynard Public Library will be open for business with lots of great programs for kids.

2. Read and Be Read To! Reading with and to your child has so many benefits. It helps develop vocabulary and language skills, promotes social-emotional development, and develops background knowledge. One of the best things you can do this summer is read with your child everyday.

3. Play Outside! While the Green Meadow Playground will be closed this summer for construction work, we hope our students play outside everyday. Research shows that playing outside not only helps improve motor skills, it also supports mental health. Playing outside can also support the development of social skills like cooperation, communication, and conflict resolution. Outdoor play often provides a great platform for creative play. Not to mention, it tends to burn off energy which promotes better sleep.

Your child certainly does not need to be in Kindergarten to take on these three summer goals. We hope all of our students will practice these goals throughout the summer. We can't wait to see everyone back at Green Meadow at the end of August!

Thank You! Thank You!

Thank you all for the thoughtful snacks in the Staff Room this week! We are always appreciative of something we can grab on the run as we wrap up the busy school year.

Grade 3 Moving On Ceremony Grade 3 Moving On Ceremony

Our traditional Grade 3 Moving On Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, at 9:00 AM. We will be celebrating their time at Green Meadow and wishing them well at Fowler. Families are invited to attend. Students will be performing some of the musical pieces they have been working on this Spring. Grade 3 teachers will share more information as the date gets closer.

Grade 3 Clap Out Grade 3 Clap Out

We will be recognizing our third grades on the last day with the traditional Grade 3 Clap Out. Third Graders will take a last lap around the building while students and staff clap and wish them well as they transition to Fowler. Families are invited to continue to Clap Out by lining up near the Library dismissal doors. If your child will be riding the bus that day we will still have them exit from this door before joining their bus line.

Summer vacation is right around the corner. The shift to a summer schedule is one of many transitions children will experience during their lifetimes. Transitions can be hard! They involve shifting focus, adjusting to new situations and regulating emotions, even if what lies ahead is welcome. How can we help kids with transitions? Here is some guidance for helping kids through big transitions such as the arrival of a new child or divorce. Are you moving this summer? Enjoy these picture books about moving away to help ease the transition. Questions or feedback? Please contact Julie Danforth at jdanforth@maynard.k12.ma.us.
