Hi Powers Families...

Please keep sick children home...

We have a lot of Stomach Flu, Strep Throat, and RSV are going around. Though we have not seen a lot of it here, COVID has also had an uptick in our community. Please remember the common sense approach: If your child has a fever, a persistent cough, is vomiting, or is experiencing diarrhea they should stay home. They should stay home until they no longer have those symptoms (unmedicated) for 24 hours. If you are not sure, take a look at the flyer below to guide when your child should stay home or go to school.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Avon Lake Eagle Cam

For the last 4 years students have watched "Stars and Stripes" rear their eaglets as a background screen in our library class. Students have asked that we share this information with parents so that you can share in the experience at home. https://www.youtube.com/@AvonLakeEagleCam/streams .

No Treat Bags

Remember, with Valentines Day approaching. Classrooms will be celebrating in various ways. Teachers have asked me to remind parents that valentines are fine to send in but that we will not be handing out treat bags or distributing candies that are sent into class that are not a part of the valentines being handed out. For more detailed information, feel free to reach out to your child's teacher.

I have also been asked to remind families that Birthdays are celebrated in class by the teachers, each in their own way. We ask that cakes or treat bags not be sent to school with students. Look to your individual teachers for guidance and for information about how your child's class does celebrations.

Party Invitations

Regarding invitations being sent to school for birthday parties. We have adopted an all or none policy here at Powers. If you are inviting everyone in class to a party we will distribute the invitations for you. If you are wanting to invite a select group of friends, please don't put the teacher in the awkward position of crushing students by not being one of the "selected" friends. Students sometimes try to bring them to school, but sadly, they are not usually able to be discrete and their friends that get an invitation make a big scene because they were invited. If you wish to invite a select group of friends please reach out to them directly, outside of school, and if you need help getting that contact information our teachers would be happy to help connect students by sharing your contact information with those families.
