MHS ATHLETICS
As we approach the final 2 weeks of the Regular Seasons for our Spring Teams (how did we get here so fast?), our Teams are making their final push towards the State Tournament.
The MHS Baseball Team received a great pitching performance from Senior Finn Foley, defeating Hingham 1-0. Finn pitched a complete game, shutout only ginning up 2 hits along the way. Sophomore Jack Paradis had the only Marshfield hit with a double in the bottom of the 6th scoring Junior Sam Fantasia for the only run of the game. The Rams next hosted Whitman-Hanson. Once again the Rams got solid starting pitching from Senior Dan Lomba, who earned the win on the mound. Junior Matt Keady picked up the save in relief and the Rams defeated W/H, 4-3. Senior Aidan Summers and Junior Charlie Spencer drove in the go-ahead and winning runs in the bottom of the 6th.
The Softball Team continues their impressive season defeating both Hingham (8-2) and Whitman-Hanson (3-0) earlier in the week. Senior Ava Sullivan was 3/3 against Hingham while teammates, and fellow Senior Sarah McIntyre and Sophomore Madelyn Whitaker had 2 hits each in the win. Against Whitman-Hanson, Sophomore Caroline Arruda continued her dominance on the mound. She threw a 2-hitter while retiring the last 16 batters she faced in the 3-0 win. Sophomore Maddy Adams and Senior Sofia Blanco each had 2 hits and an RBI in the win.
The Girls Track and Field Team had an impressive win this week against league rival Hingham, 98-37. The Rams were led by Senior Anna White who took 1st Place in High Jump and in 2nd Place in both the Long Jump and 100 Hurdles. Junior Grace Keene finished 1st in the Triple Jump and Long Jump. Sophomore Karsyn Egan finished 1st in the 400M while Junior Hannah Tiernan finished 1st in the Shot Put and Discus.
The Boys Track and Field Team also took on League rival Hingham and suffered their 1st defeat of the season in a close Meet. The Rams have had a very good season as a Team and as individuals. Freshman Conor Rightmire has been very consistent in the distance events as have Seniors Tucker McNamee and Evan Young. Junior Kyle Casale has broken his PR’s on the season multiple times while placing 1st in Field Events and fellow Junior Sean Chesbro has also come on as the regular season starts coming to a close.
The Girls Lacrosse Team traveled to Scituate and unfortunately came up a little short. Senior Julia Pozerski had a strong game with 3 groundball wins and forcing 3 Scituate turnovers. Junior Avery Hanlon had forced Scituate to turn the ball over 3 times as well. The Rams bounced back in a big way when they took on Plymouth-North defeating them 13-9. Senior Julia O’Brien had a big game offensively scoring 4 goals for Marshfield. Senior Clara McGrath also had some big goals down the stretch when P/N tried to make a comeback. Senior Chloe Cupples played well defensively for the Rams as they pulled away from P/N.
The Boys Lacrosse Team hosted Scituate this week and won 10-2. Senior Jon Sullivan has been terrorizing defenses and goalies all season long and did so against Scitaute. Fellow Senior Sam O’Brien also had a big game offensively controlling possession with his face off abilities and goal scoring rushes. Junior Kyle Bossy has been good for the Rams all season and had a strong game again against the sailors. The Rams LAX men followed up their Scituate victory with a win against Plymouth-North, 10-5. Senior Goalie Dylan Burhoe backboned the Marshfield victory with some key saves. Sophomore Rowan Hession had 2 key goals for the Rams in the win. Also coming up with 2 big goals in the Marshfield win was Sophomore Ty Withers.
The MHS Unified Track and Field Team participated in Regionals this week at Middleborough High School. The Rams came away with a number of medals and ribbons in their 1st season competing at States. Freshman Maddy Babson finished 1st for Marshfield in the Mixed Javelin Competition in her Tier. Maddy and her partner, Junior Shane Kelley-Twigg, finished 1st and 2nd in their Tier in the Mixed 400M Dash. Senior Tessa Panagrossi and Freshman Declan Murphy finished in 4th and 5th place in their Tier in the Mixed Shot-put.
The Girls Tennis Team had to start the week against perineal powerhouse Hingham. Even though they came up short against Hingham, they played tough. The Girls stayed focused after Hingham and defeated Silver Lake in their next Match, 4-1. Sophomore Abby Lam won at 1st Singles while teammate, Junior Sloane Pifer defeated her opponent at 2nd Singles. The 1st Doubles Team of Senior Carly Lydon and Freshman Natalee Audette swept their Match for the Marshfield win. The Rams played well in their loss against Whitman-Hanson. Again the 1st Doubles of Carly Lydon and Natalee Audette were able to take home the win for Marshfield. The 2nd Doubles Team lost in 3 Sets, but Sophomores Julia Dunn and Kate McGrath played very well.
The Boys Tennis Team continues to make progress towards the State Tournament. The Rams also had to battle Hingham to start the week and then bounced back with a win and sweep against Silver Lake, 5-0. Number 1 Singles, Sophomore Julian Baker, continues to play well for Marshfield and sets the team up well. Fellow Sophomore Taylor Bird and Senior Brendan Tierney have been very good in Doubles competition and Junior Cole Perreault continues to play well in Singles action. The Boys would sweep Whitman-Hanson to close out their week and continue to look forward to the State Tournament.
The Girls Golf Team continues to work hard and improve their game in a very competitive Patriot League. The Rams took on Scituate this week for their only match. The Rams lost a tough, 4-3 to the Sailors. Sophomore Ella Wallace won her Match in 6 Holes. Freshman Chloe Francis also won a close one for the Rams. Sophomores Abigail Panasuk and Jillian Parrell also played well for Marshfield. Unfortunately, due to the weather, Marshfield’s Match against Cohasset had to be postponed.
The MHS Rugby Team won their 3rd straight Match in a row defeating Chelmsford 32-15. The Rams are having a very good season as they make a final push to the postseason. Seniors Christian Devlin, Declan McGonagle and Eli Yang have been very important in the Rams continued development in being a State Tournament contender. Senior Liam Dillon and Junior Sean Folan are also having had excellent seasons for the Rams.

FOCUS FOR THE YEAR
As we progress through the third year of our five-year collaboratively developed Strategic Plan, we remain focused on our Mission, Core Values, and Vision, and on realizing the strategic initiatives that will help us reach our goals. As a reminder, our four pillars that will serve us for remainder of the strategic plan are:
“Equity, Belonging, and Wellness”
“Teaching, Learning, and Leading”
“Community, Engagement, and Communication”
AND
“Management and Operations”
BELONGING INITIATIVE: CHOOSING A DISTRICT WIDE SEL PLATFORM
One of the major goals of our Belonging efforts this year is to choose a Social-Emotional Leanring (SEL) platform for our district. Under the leadership of Dr. Ellen Martin, Assistant Superintendent, we have assembled a comprehensive steering team who are looking at the research, establishing priorities, and working to narrow down some final platforms for field testing at all levels this spring with a goal of full adoption next fall. The two platforms / curriculums that we will be fieldtesting are Wayfinder and Ruler, both research based and used widely throughout districts across the country. They offer tiered supports for all students, and they are connected closely to the CASEL Competencies. There will be time for student and family input in this important initiative.
