Dear NPS Families,

Today marks 25 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. I want to take a moment to honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives and the first responders who answered the call to help others.

For many adults in our community, September 11th is tied to memories that remain vivid even after a quarter-century. Our students are growing up with a greater distance from that day. What was once a shared experience for us has become an important part of our nation's history for the generations that have followed.

That makes the way we remember and teach about September 11th especially important. This morning, our middle and high school students observed a moment of silence, and our social studies teachers taught students about the events of that day, the lasting impact on our country, and the lives of those who were lost and affected.

Tonight at 6:20 PM, there will be a special ceremony on the NHS football field before the game starts. This ceremony is to remember and honor those who lost their lives 25 years ago, including Newburyport native Thomas Pecorelli. We will also recognize those who responded that day, and those who continue to serve our communities today.

As we mark this anniversary, I hope you will join me in remembering those we lost, honoring the first responders, and continuing our responsibility to carry their stories forward.

Respectfully,

Sean Gallagher
