Mercy Hospital Partnership

The Chelsea Center is grateful for our valued community partners dedicated to the growth and development of Webster Groves High School students. We couldn’t do this work without them!

Mercy Hospital extends their partnership in various ways, and this year has worked with us to build a program offering students enrolled in a Chelsea Center Passion Pursuit class 40 hours of intensive healthcare job shadowing experience in their medical fields of interest. This community-based learning is paired with classroom guidance regarding professionalism, goal setting, complex problem solving, and critical thinking. Students practice these skills and also receive support for reflection on their personal, social, and emotional growth.

Says one student, “I’m learning about roles in the hospital and what all goes into the jobs. It has been a great experience so far!” Says another, “I am becoming a better communicator when I am pushed out of my comfort zone. The staff is also very helpful when explaining the procedures and how the different parts work together. This is definitely helping me expand my knowledge.”

We will offer this clinical intensive experience once again in the second semester. Interested students can speak with Mr. Bommarito in the Chelsea Center, room 200, or email him at bommarito.patrick@wgmail.org.

Reminder: We can help students who are pursuing their A+ hours find connections to service learning that include the mentorship or job shadowing components the A+ program requires. Have your students stop by to talk with us, or independently explore their GivePulse account opportunity listings at wgsd.givepulse.com.
