Walnut Elementary Bids Farewell to Beloved Custodian After 38 Years of Dedicated Service
Unity Day has been celebrated in the United States and around the world since 2011. It is the most well-known event of National Bullying Prevention Month, sponsored by Pacer's National Bullying Prevention Center. To participate in Unity Day, individuals, schools, communities, and businesses wear or display orange to show support for students who have been bullied, in addition to sending the message that no child should ever experience bullying.
The Conejo community is encouraged to wear orange this Wednesday to send a visible message of commitment to kindness, acceptance and inclusion!
Throughout Red Ribbon Week, CVUSD schools hold special spirit week events to build school connectedness and show our commitment to healthy lifestyles. Click here to learn more.
The ERP Honor Roll program, sponsored by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE), is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes and preparing students with the skills employers value and demand.
Here a few important details about the ERP Honor Roll:
- It is the only award given in collaboration with state and local business leaders.
- It establishes a high bar of performance using data from student assessments.
- It is conducted by Educational Results Partnership, a nonprofit organization that developed the nation’s largest database on student achievement.
CVUSD's Seven Advisory Councils Hold First Joint Super DAC Meeting of the Year
Last week, CVUSD held its first Super DAC meeting of the school year, bringing together members from all seven of our district advisory councils and committees. It was a great opportunity for collaboration, connection, and shared purpose. Dr. Collin Williams from the nonprofit RISE was also welcomed back as the meeting's impactful guest speaker. Thank you to all of our parent and family volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to make a positive impact in our schools as members of these committees.
Once a Warrior, Always a Warrior: Spotlight on MLB All-Star's Baseball Beginning
He may have been facing the home team during last week's National League Championship Series, but Westlake High School will always be the home field for Warrior Class of 2010 graduate and Milwaukee Brewers' All-Star Christian Yelich. Ahead of Game 3 at Dodgers Stadium, CBS News stopped by Westlake High to chat with former coach and current teacher Zach Miller, current baseball coach Wally Barnett, and Principal Jason Branham to reminisce on Christian's baseball beginnings and the positive impact he continues to make on the Westlake community:
Walnut Bids Farewell to Beloved Custodian After 38 Years of Dedicated Service
On Friday, October 17th, the Walnut Elementary School community came together to celebrate a true Wildcat legend: Mr. Gonzalo Alfaro, who is retiring after an incredible 38 years of service as the school’s custodian.
In true Walnut fashion, the event was filled with joy, gratitude, and a touch of Wildcat fun — with students donning mustaches in tribute to Mr. Alfaro’s signature look. The entire student body lined the halls to cheer for Mr. Alfaro and share high-fives and hugs of appreciation. The festivities finished with a special schoolwide ceremony, complete with kind words and presents in recognition of his decades of hard work and unwavering commitment to the school. Staff, students, parents and colleagues — both past and present — gathered to show their appreciation, sharing memories and heartfelt words about Mr. Alfaro’s incredible positive impact over the years.
