Writing is our focus at BES this year!!

Our teachers have already been working hard on writing instruction for your students!! They had a workshop about writing before school started and students are writing up a storm! When students are better writers, they are better readers! We are excited about the writing that will be taking place this year and hope you will talk to your child about what they are currently writing about!! The pictures for this week are from the 4th and 5th grade!

MClass Beginning of Year Assessments this Week for 1st-5th Graders๐Ÿ“– MClass Beginning of Year Assessments this Week for 1st-5th Graders๐Ÿ“–

Kindergarten will be the week of August 31

Our beginning of year MClass (Reading) assessments will begin on Monday, August 24th. Students in grades 1st - 5th will be assessed this week and kindergarten (to allow them time to get settled into a routine) will begin the following week. This will give us a baseline to start the year and will help us determine what skills your child needs to work on. Our goal this year is that 95% of our students are on grade level! Please read with your child each night and encourage them to read throughout the week and weekends!! Reading is key!

Parent Advisory Council ๐Ÿ”‘ Parent Advisory Council ๐Ÿ”‘

Parent input is key to a successful school!

If you would like to be a part of our parent advisory council, please fill out the survey below! I had several folks sign up last week and thought I would throw it out there one more week. We will meet monthly (or bimonthly in the winter) and talk about ideas and ways to improve BES. I ask for important feedback and we help each other problem solve...and we have fun! I hope you will consider being a part of the Parent Advisory Council!

Each Month Teachers will be Sending Home the Book of the Month!

We are excited about our annual Book of the Month program. In this program, Title One purchases a picture book for each classroom teacher. The students enjoy listening to the story read by the teacher and then the teacher will be sending the book home to the classroom of students to share with families. In the bag with the book is a sign in sheet. When the book of the month comes home, sign the sheet, read the book with your child and return the book at your earliest convenience so the next student and family can enjoy!
