In Reading, we are working on asking and answering who, what, when, where, why, and how questions to demonstrate our understanding of key details. We will practice using complete sentences to provide clarification.
Writing narratives will allow practice with sequencing events and describing actions, thoughts, and feelings. We will use temporal words such as first, next, then, and finally to signal the order of events in our writing.
We will also be predicting the meaning of compound words, distinguishing short and long vowel sounds, and identify and read grade-appropriate words.
Please continue to have your child explain the beginning, middle and end of the story after reading to you for at least 20 minutes! Also, please work with your child on addition and subtraction facts.
Thank you for all of your help with your child’s education!

Greetings 3rd-Grade Family & Friends,
We are very excited to be working with you and your students this year! We are off to a great start learning 3rd-grade expectations and routines.
Your student MUST follow expectations and routines at school and home quickly! Ensure they have a morning routine that includes breakfast at home or school and an evening routine that includes going to bed on time to get a restful night's sleep.
Students must be responsible for their belongings. They can bring jackets for chilly classrooms, water bottles to use during the day, and sack lunches on the days they prefer not to eat the menu item. Jackets may not be worn in PE to keep everyone safe. Water bottles should be taken home and cleaned daily. Sack lunches must still be nutritious with a main course that will fuel the brain!
We are practicing the proper printing strokes so students can write legibly. Please have students use their print resource in their homework folder to practice. It was sent home after our Title 1 night. All students have the handwriting resource at school, too!
In SEL, (social-emotional learning), we just finished a refresher on kindness. Please praise your student for their kind acts.
In Math, we jump right into multiplication and division, so please support your child with learning their multiplication facts, but don’t forget about addition and subtraction, too! Practice makes progress! In Quarter 1, our Fast Fact Focus is addition!
In ELA, students are enjoying a chapter book as we focus on narrative stories in reading and writing, along with learning vocabulary to support better understanding and awesome conversations.
Economics is the focus of Social Studies. Needs, Wants, and Resources, oh my! Students are learning about how people get their wants and needs. The next time your student asks for something, see if they can tell you if it is a want or a need and why?!
We Want to have a successful year! If you Need anything, please keep in contact with us using Parent Square. Let us know what questions you have or how we can assist you. It’s going to be a GREAT year soaring ahead with knowledge and skills!!

Hello 4th Grade Families,
We are off to a fantastic start in 4th grade! It has been such a joy getting to know your children and beginning this exciting new school year together. Here's a look at what we've been learning so far and what we will continue working on in the upcoming month:
Reading & Writing
We kicked off our first reading unit by exploring the fascinating world of scientists! Students are learning how to read and analyze informational texts, gaining insight into the work scientists do and the impact they have on our world.
In writing, we're diving into informative writing. Students are learning how to conduct research and organize their findings to create a well-written piece about a famous scientist. Over the next few weeks, we will continue developing these skills as they plan, draft, revise, and publish their final pieces.
Math
In Math, we’ve been reviewing some essential skills to build a strong foundation for the year ahead. Students are practicing place value, rounding numbers, and using strategies to accurately add multi-digit numbers. As we move into the next month, we’ll continue building on these concepts and begin working on subtracting multi-digit numbers using a variety of strategies.
Social Studies
In Social Studies, we’ve started learning about the beginnings of our country. Students are exploring how the United States was formed, the key events that shaped our nation, and the people who played important roles in our history. It's been exciting to see their curiosity grow as they learn about our past!
Stay Connected
Please make sure to stay connected with us through ParentSquare, our new communication app for updates, announcements, and direct messaging. If you have any questions or concerns, we’re just a message away!
We’re looking forward to a month full of continued learning, growth, and discovery. Thank you for your support, we’re so excited for all that’s ahead!

PE: Mr. Navarro and Ms. Morales
Dear Linn Lion Families,
We’ve had a busy and exciting start in Physical Education this year, and we’re excited to share what your child has been working on!
Getting Started
All students began the year by learning and practicing our gym rules and expectations. We also introduced seating spots, which help us stay organized and ready for activity. This routine sets the foundation for a safe and fun PE environment.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade
Our youngest learners are focusing on throwing and catching skills to develop hand-eye coordination. We’re also introducing the basic rules of football in a fun and age-appropriate way.
2nd – 5th Grade
Students in grades 2–5 are working on the game of football while practicing important motor skills, including:
- Throwing with accuracy and control
- Catching with hands and proper positioning
- Kicking off a tee to learn timing and technique
In addition, 3rd–5th graders completed their Fitness Testing, which helps us track growth in areas like endurance, strength, and flexibility.
Exciting News!
We are thrilled to share that our gym has a brand-new floor! The updated space gives students a safe and modern environment to learn, play, and stay active.
How You Can Help at Home
Encourage your child to practice throwing and catching a ball outside of school. A simple game of catch is a great way to reinforce what we’re learning in PE while keeping the whole family moving!
Thank you for supporting your child’s health and fitness. We look forward to an amazing year of movement, games, and growth!
Sincerely,
Mr. Navarro – Ms. Morales

Librarian's Corner: Mrs. Nolan-Santy
For success in reading, students need many opportunities to interact with good books by reading them and by hearing them read aloud both at school and at home. It is for this reason that our school library policy permits students to take their borrowed library books home.
We will be discussing the meaning of this responsibility with your child. We will need your help in making sure that the books are kept in good condition and are returned to the library on time. Parents will be expected to pay to replace any lost or severely damaged books. The price will depend on the type of book and how much the school paid for that book.
The following are ways to help your son or daughter assume this responsibility:
- Model careful handling of library books.
- Help your child find a safe place to keep the books during the borrowed period.
- Help your child remember to return the books on time.
While the books are in your home, we hope you will:
- Read them aloud with your child.
- Have your child read to you.
- Have your child read silently.
Giving all students access to library resources at school and at home is one way we hope to improve your child's opportunity for academic success. First and second grade students will be permitted to bring one book home for a period of two weeks. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students will be permitted to borrow two books at a time. Kindergarteners keep their books in their classrooms.
Thank you!
Counselor's Corner: Mrs. Stone
We're off to an exciting start this school year with our new and returning students. They're doing a remarkable job of listening and showing respect. In our first lesson, we compared the counselor's role to the rabbit in the story The Rabbit Listens for K-1 students. Like the rabbit, the counselor listens, loves, stays by our side, and helps, playing a vital role in our school community.
For 2nd -5th students, we learned the five activities counselors do: 1. Love spending time with their students teaching class, leading small groups, and providing individual counseling. 2. Helping them positively manage their strong feelings. 3. Helping students have effective problem-solving skills and strengthen friendships. 4. Believe in their students and help the student recognize their strengths and set goals. 5. Helping students work hard and overcome challenges.
The next lessons will be on kindness, the bullying policy, respect and paying attention, responsibility, and acceptance. At the end of the month, 2-5 will begin SchoolLink, the district’s online career program.
