The Dragon Journal
November 7, 2025
Dear Dragon Families,
We’re so excited to invite you to our STEAM Night this Monday evening! STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art, and math. This special event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your child’s learning and experience the creativity and curiosity that fill our classrooms each day.
During the event, you’ll have a chance to explore student projects at our Science Fair, play math games as a family, and even create an art project together. It’s always inspiring to see families learning side-by-side—asking questions, experimenting, and celebrating the amazing work our students are doing.
We love opening our doors for nights like this, when our school comes alive with energy, laughter, and discovery. Your partnership and enthusiasm help make our learning community so special.
We hope you’ll join us for this evening of hands-on fun and family connection! The event runs from 5:30-7:00pm. Please come at any point during that time period.
With excitement,
Lindsay Keegan

Thank You to Our Amazing Trunk or Treat Volunteers!
Our community came together once again for a spooktacular Trunk or Treat event, and it was a huge success—thanks to you! We couldn’t have done it without you.
We want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who helped made this event so special. From those who decorated their trunks in creative, spooky, and fun themes to those who donated candy, your enthusiasm made the evening magical for all the kids (and adults!) who attended.

Third Grade Writing Units
Third graders marked the end of their informational writing unit with a special classroom event. Students rotated between classrooms, read books written by their peers, and shared thoughtful feedback. The activity not only highlighted their hard work and creativity but also fostered a strong sense of community and collaboration among young writers.
Now our third grade writers are diving into their new argumentative writing unit! To launch the lesson, students practiced their persuasion skills by convincing Mrs. Keegan that they needed more supplies for their writing center. The fun, hands-on activity helped students learn how to make strong arguments and support their ideas with reasons and evidence.
October Dragon Dens
In the October Dragon Den students learned that our feelings change and grow. We talked about primary feelings (like happy, sad, angry, scared, and love) and how those can turn into secondary feelings (like pride, sympathy, frustration, or gratitude). Through stories and discussions, students practiced recognizing how emotions build on each other and how understanding them helps us show empathy and manage our feelings in healthy ways.
Fifth Grade Gratitude Cards
During the Halloween party, fifth grade students created gratitude cards for members of the Troy community. These gratitude cards were delivered to the Troy Police Department and the Troy Public Library to show appreciation for all they do!
Dragon Flag Poster Congratulations!
Ms. Pertler’s students recently filled up their Dragon Flag poster and were recognized for showing our core values (Perseverance, Kindness, Respect, and Integrity) in the hallways and lunchroom! A cozy pajama day was their reward! Well done!
Math Fun in Ms. Hazergian’s Class
Students in Ms. Hazergian’s class have been busy sharpening their math skills through exciting Math Work Place games. This week’s focus has been on doubling numbers and writing doubles addition equations, and the classroom has been full of energy and learning!
Nonfiction Reading Buddies
Schroeder second graders proudly shared their nonfiction writing pieces with kindergarten classes this week. After weeks of researching, drafting, and revising, the young authors had the opportunity to read their finished books aloud to eager kindergarten listeners.
Buddy Classes Get Creative for Halloween!
This week, buddy classes joined forces for a fun and festive Halloween activity! Working together, the older and younger students teamed up to complete a creative craft to disguise a ghost. Students had to use their imaginations to disguise their ghost as something entirely different. By the end of the activity, everyone had a unique and silly “not-so-spooky” ghosts — a perfect celebration of teamwork and Halloween spirit!
