Community Resources Available During Parent-Teacher Conferences

The staff at Annville-Cleona wants to ensure our students and families have as much support as possible both inside and outside of school. We work with several amazing community resources that will be present at our parent-teacher conferences this year. Empower the Mind, Compass Mark, Power Packs, and other resources will be present. These companies provide support through school-based therapy, small groups, food donations, and additional services. If you are interested in meeting with them, they will be present at Cleona from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 24th, and at Annville from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. On Tuesday, November 25th. We hope to see you there!

School Counselor's Corner School Counselor's Corner

As we continue to work on building a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning community, we need your help in reinforcing the importance of students using positive language. While the vast majority of our students communicate in a kind manner, we have recently observed instances where students have used language that is not aligned with our school values. This includes disrespectful terms or slang, profanity, and words that can be hurtful or culturally insensitive.

This type of language is unacceptable and goes against our commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for every child. We are taking these issues seriously and addressing instances as they arise, with a focus on education, accountability, and corrective action.

We know that children often hear this language through a variety of sources, including the media, video games, and social interactions. Therefore, we need your partnership to reinforce clear standards at home. Please take a few moments this week to have an age-appropriate conversation with your child about the power and impact of their words. Together, we can ensure our school remains a positive and welcoming place for all.

Please feel free to use these questions to guide a conversation with your child about respect, language, and the school environment:

Understanding Impact:

  • Can you tell me what you think makes a word or phrase 'unsafe' or 'inappropriate' at school?

  • Why is it important to think about how your words might make someone else feel?

  • What should you do if someone says something that makes you feel uncomfortable or hurt?

Respect and Inclusion:

  • What does it mean to be a good friend and show respect to everyone, even if they are different from you?

  • Why is it wrong to use words that hurt people because of their background or the color of their skin?

  • If you hear someone using a word you don't understand, what should you do instead of repeating it?

Unsafe Language/Threats:

  • Why are there very serious rules about talking about weapons or making threats at school, even if you are just joking?

  • Can you explain the difference between telling a joke and saying something that could scare or worry someone?

Media Influence:

  • Where do you hear or see language that you know you wouldn't be allowed to use at school?

  • It's important to remember that just because you hear it in a movie or game, it doesn't mean it's okay to say it in real life. Can we talk about what you hear and why we don't use those words?

Thank you for helping us teach our students the value of kindness, empathy, and respect in all their interactions. Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher or the main office with any concerns.

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires that local education agencies (LEAs) notify parents at the beginning of each school year about their right to request information about their child's teacher's qualifications. For more information, please see the Annual Parent Notice letter below.

District Comprehensive Planning District Comprehensive Planning

On Monday, November 17, 2025, a team of diverse stakeholders will assemble to review and revise the Annville-Cleona School District’s Comprehensive Plan, focusing on our mission, vision, shared values, school performance assessments, and setting goals for the future. The last update to our plan occurred in March 2023; per the Pennsylvania Department of Education, our plan must be updated every three years. Planning for continuous improvement of teaching and learning is critically important to ensuring that all students have access to an excellent education that prepares them for college, career, and life. This type of planning is grounded in evidence-based approaches that can both improve student outcomes by allocating resources to programs and practices likely to have a positive impact. Opportunities to create, assess, and adjust throughout the cycle empower our school district to engage stakeholders in the pursuit of a shared vision for student success during planning meetings.

We have invited various parents, teachers, administrators, and community members from across the district to participate in our Comprehensive Plan update. We plan on conducting a collaborative process to ensure we gather feedback from each of our team members. Through this collaborative process, we will discuss the following plan components:

  • Academic Standards and Assessment Requirements
  • Gifted Education
  • Student Services
  • New Teacher Induction
  • Professional Development

If you are interested in being a part of our Comprehensive Planning Steering Committee, please contact your respective building principal.

We hope that you will be able to join us at 6:00 pm in the High School Media Center on November 17, 2025. Light refreshments will be served.
