Disability History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements of individuals with disabilities, advocate for their rights, and promote understanding and inclusivity within society. This monthlong recognition serves as a reminder that every student has the right to be respected, valued, and provided with opportunities to succeed.
Disability History Month traces its origins back to 1987 when President Ronald Reagan officially declared the observance. This observance brings attention to the varied and unique experiences of individuals with disabilities. At the Wednesday, February 19, 2025 Board of Education Meeting Resolution #24/25-24 In Support of Disability History Month was approved.
National Women's History Month began as a week-long observance celebrated the week of March 8, 1980, to honor the contributions women have made to our Nation and society. That week was chosen to correspond with International Women's Day, which is March 8th.
The 2025 National Women's History Month theme is "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations." The theme "celebrates the collective strength, equality, and influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and leadership, shaping the minds and futures of all generations."
At the Wednesday, February 19, 2025 Board of Education meeting, Resolution #24/25-23: In Support of National Womenβs History Month was approved by the Board of Education.
In March, millions of children across the country will celebrate Read Across America Week, an annual event sponsored by the National Education Association and many of the countryβs leading literacy and youth groups. In the Conejo, the event is co-sponsored by the Unified Association of Conejo Teachers and the District.
Read Across America Week was born in 1998 by the National Education Association. Throughout the years, it has become America's largest celebration of reading. Read Across America, with the NEAβs theme of βCreate and Celebrate a Nation of Diverse Readers,β celebrates and encourages a nation of diverse readers, academically engaging students while working to build cultural awareness, encourage empathy, and emphasize acceptance.
The District supports Read Across America Week and at the Wednesday, February 19, 2025 Board of Education meeting approved Resolution #24/25-25 Read Across America Week.
Our Parent Outreach Program invites CVUSD Parents and Guardians to attend a special Motivational Presentation designed to ignite passion, curiosity, and a love for learning at home. This event aims to inspire parents to help their children reach their full potential academically and approach learning with energy and enthusiasm.
The presentation will take place this Saturday March 8th, at Acacia Magnet School from 9:00am - 11:00am. Childcare for TK-5 grade students will be provided if needed.

Walking with Meaning: Schools Host Walk to School Events to Honor Ruby Bridges
In honor of Black History Month, CVUSD schools held special events throughout the month of February to celebrate and commemorate the roles African Americans have played in our country's history.
Last week, our Ladera STARS Academy and Acacia Magnet School for Enriched Learning each held a special Walk to School event in honor of Ruby Bridges. Our scholars, families and staff united to celebrate Ruby Bridges' bravery and legacy. Thank you to all who participated at both schools' events, and to community partner, the Thousand Oaks Police Department, for your support of our school communities' safety during these Walk to School events.
Watch the video below to learn more about Ladera's Walk to School event.
